We know that the seasons are changing, when the "comfort food" is dished up, complete with cookies!  Twas a buzy little meeting, indeed!  Guests were introduced, and the fines flew!  Twenty five cents (.25) to
Don Marshall for exposing his son to this group; another quarter from the
Sgt. -at - Arms (BOB Hogg) to Fred Downs for journalistic errors regarding Bob's name and title, in the newsletter.  I'm sure that Bob will make a great newsletter editor very soon!  Downs got even by leveling a quarter on the Prez for not providing a list of officers; and Table #1 got hit for two bits each for just being them!  Announcements focused on such items as a "challenging" night at Bingo;  Entertainment Books being reduced to a mere EIGHT left; Martinez and Geers winning the football pool; and the
1st Annual Mexican Dinner and Bronco's Game at the Elk's Club on October 27th!  Amid all of this activity, many pictures and archival documents were being passed around, and shared, as we continue to prepare for the December 7th Gala in celebration of your 50th Anniversary!  The party is starting to come together, thanks to Mr. Hiss!

                                      SERTOMAN OF THE DAY

Rich Carlson was introduced as the SOD.  Rich took some of his very valuable SOD time to inform us about a campaign designed to change the date of Veterans' Day.  After reading the proclamation against this little change, a petition was circulated.  One really wonders if there aren't just too many people with too much time on their hands?  Rich was born in New Jersey in 1945, on the banks of the beautiful Passaic River.  In 1963, Rich went into the military to work with rockets, and later became very adept at photography.   On slow snapping days, Rich can be found loading  his vending machines.  Miley brought him in, and Marshall got the Fiver!

PROGRAM

Our Program Chairman, Dave Miley, introduced several members of the Englewood Fire Department.  Rarely does one get such an inside look at the workings of the fire department.  Using a format of, "Jason talked, and Snyder answered," we were given information on the structure of the department.  In addition, we gleaned insight into "Life in the Firehouse," which included a description of the twenty-four hour shifts, which included shopping, cooking, training, public presentations, and the occasional fire, heart attack, "fallen and I can't get up," and surely a few cats in the tree.
Interestingly enough, the members of the department work with a scheduling system known as the Berkley Shift.  This system provides for one twenty-four hour day on, followed by one twenty-four hour day off.   The Englewood Fire Department fields approximately 6,000 calls per year, and the division of duties consists of 80% medical, 15% fire, and 5% "other."  Following the meeting, several members received a tour of the $350,000 Fire Truck.  Thanks guys!  We enjoyed it!
