Sertoman of the Day

Our own Bill Kohlmeier landed in Bristol, PA some 67 years ago.  There are several rivers that are around there, but our space is too limited here to explore them.  Bill grew up in Kruden, PA where he attended school, but the high school is closed.  He graduated from Hilton High School (NY) and just recently returned from his 50th reunion, noting that he is the youngest of the surviving graduates, because he graduated at 16.  At age 17 Bill splashed into the Navy, and then off to college.  Bill taught high school (English) in Cleveland, OH, and in 1973 was called into the ministry.  In 1990 he came to Christ Lutheran Church in Englewood in an attempt to deal with the likes of Doug Harder, who brought him into the club.  Having somewhat succeeded, he retired a few years ago.  Bill has been married for 45 years, has three kido’s and 6 grand-children, who are mostly in Ohio.  $5 to Norm Schillo.  Thanks Bill, for being part of the club.

Program

Randy Smith, who was all dressed up today, was our program chair.  Randy introduced Susan Hartley, who is a Regional Vice-President of Marketing for Quest.  In part of her spare time, however, Susan volunteers with the Jeffco Developmental Disabilities Resource Center, and is on the board with Randy.  She is also a Denver Business Journal nominee for Woman of the Year, as she has a passion for serving others.  Susan has a 21 year old son, Cameron,  who is profoundly disabled and for whom she cares for at home, Susan talked about the acceptance of the mentally disabled by society, and that is continues to improve.  Jeffco has a ballot election to increase the mill level for home owners, to provide additional funds for the mentally disabled.  The average increase per household would be $13.18 per year.   The money will be used to assist kids staying at home and adults to find jobs or have day care.  There are many disabled people who reside in the three state institutions, but more room is needed, as there is a waiting time of between 8-15– years.  Thanks Susan for all you do.
