This Week In Review

Certainly a fine day .... weather-wise and financial-wise.  Don smith brought his wife, Jean and Rich Carlson brought his grandson (Nic), so each was appropriately fined, of course.  Bill Storey told a most touching story of the failure of his fellow bingo team members to . . . well, you had to hear the story to understand.  He asked that those members be fined, and it passed.  We had to rely on the honor system in that the offenders could not be named.  I believe the total collected was two bits.  Bill was then fined by a very close vote.  The prez paid a two-bit wimp fine and Don Smith paid a wishful thinking fine (don't ask what he was wishing for).  So all in all it was a fine day.
The pre seemed to have trouble concentrating on business, admitting he had just returned from a couple of weeks in Hawaii.  The Pot of God went to Doc Nelson, who seemed pleased that he would have some gambling money for the trip to the Lodge.

Sertoman of the Day

Today's SOD was ... Fred Downs.  We thought Fred may be from some place in the South, and sure enough he claimed to be a native son of a small sawmill town in ....either Louisiana or Arkansas (Fred was moving along so quickly, I could hardly keep up).  I do know he spent some early time in East Texas.  After a checkered grade and middle school history, Fred finally ended up in Magnolia AR, where he graduated from Southern Arkansas University.  Fred worked for Gulf Oil until the draft board found him.  For four years he protected our inland shores as a member of the U.S. Navy, then returned to Gulf Oil.  When geologists outnumbered the general public in Texas, he came to the Denver area, working for a drilling company on the western slope.  He spent 15 years with Johns Manville.  Fred joined Arapahoe in 1981.  Fred's wife Sybil passed away in 1994.  Fred's two daughters live in the Denver area.  Fred's a fine member - willing, able and dependable .. thanks Fred.  His fiver went to Bob Buckland.

Program

Today's program was David Rogers and Terry Keller of the Keller Bros. Automotive shop.   The intent was to keep us and our vehicles out of trouble by emphasizing preventative maintenance and use of quality products.  Keller Bros. has a local and national reputation as a quality repair shop.  Dave and Terry had a mini show and tell using parts that had failed unnecessarily.  Thanks to them for a most informative program.  See their website ...(click icon)

Thoughts to Ponder

Dog-gon good advice...

  • The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue
  • If your dog is fat, you aren't getting enough exercise
  • A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself
  • The average dog is a nicer person than the average  person
