Song -Someone           Pledge -Someone              Invocation - Dave Miley

Meeting Highlights

Guests: David Penland, guest of Doug Harder, and Jim Rees, guest of the gin club.
A good crowd assembled for a Mexican meal of beef or chicken burritos.  A good time was had by all.  The atmosphere was jovial
and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.  Announcements were made, fines were levied, complaints were ignored, and everything seemed to be normal.  The program had not arrived in time for the song, pledge, and invocation.

Announcements: Bill Parchen gave the details regarding the trip to Black Hawk scheduled for February 17.  Be at the Pharmore not later than 5:30 pm.  Also he announced that the Cajun Cook Out will be July 30.  Tom Fry announced the details of the Country Dinner Play house social.  It will be February 3.  Price is $32.50/person.  Tommy needs your money ASAP.  Dick Laskey gave us and up date on last nights BINGO.  We had 87 players and deposited $4,700.  The progressive is up to $5,100.  Next week will be the C team.  Dick also gave a report on the growth breakfast Wednesday morning.  In spite of the unruly weather guests and members showed up.  Meetings will continue a Mimi's, Yosemite and C-470, 7:00 am.  Joe Geers reminded us about the Freedom Week Luncheon February 15. at the Radison Park Plaza DTC.  We will not have our normal meeting that week.  A reception dinner will be held for him earlier in the wee.  Pres. Joe reminded us that the Regional Convention will be held here this year.  It will be at the Hilton, E. Bellevue.  This years Convention will be sponsored by the Platt Canyon Club.  So far the program has missed his meal.

Sertoman of the Day

President Joe Dowdey had his opportunity to tell us about himself today.  Joe was born in Hawarden Iowa.  Hawarden is north of Sioux City, south of Sioux Falls, west of Sioux Center, and east of the Big Sioux River.  Joe is married to Carol and has a son Jim, and a daughter Jessica.  Joe and Carol have two grand kids.  Joe was brought into the club by John Pifer.  Joe has held virtually every office on the Board of Directors and chaired numerous committees.  He is a financial advisor at J. D. Edward's.  Joe grew up in a family owned furniture business atmosphere dating back to his grandfather.  When Joe failed to grasp the difference between a crosscut and a rip saw, the lineage stopped and the business failed.  Fortunately for us, he is a proud SERTOMAN,  and a great President.  Here's to one of the good guys, Joe Dowdey. Joe Dowdey finished, and Joe Geers is still waiting for the program.

 Words of Wisdom

  • It isn't difficult to make a mountain out of a molehill -  just add a little dirt.

  • The mighty oak tree was once a little nut that  held its ground.
  • You'll notice that a turtle only makes progress when it sticks out its neck.
  • You have to wonder about humans - they think God is dead and Elvis is alive!
  • If the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, you can bet the water bill is higher.
  •  It's all right to sit on your pity pot every now and again. Just be sure to flush when you are done.
