This weeks Reporter- Mike Magee

Song - Mike Magee  Pledge -Will Martinez            Invocation - Pastor Robinson

Good Fare today was Chicken, Mashed Spuds, Vegies and Cookies
o our guests today. Doug Harder introduced Dave Penlan and Pastor Robinson who are waiting for induction. Probably Prez Dowdy was concerned about overshadowing today’s festivities in D.C. and decided to wait to induct our new members. Most of the rowdies were absent today, so the fine pot did not see action.  Dick Laskey announced that the second meeting of the new Lone Tree Club happened yesterday morning with a disappointing turnout of prospects. We are all enthused about the new club and believe it will happen, but sure could use everyone’s help. Please can Dick with any prospects. George Hannes announced that 10% of the Raffle tickets have been sold and paid for. He passed out envelopes for members to indicate the number of tickets that they would like. Tables can be reserved after tickets are paid for. Total prize money will be $8,000. If you have an opinion on how that money should be broken down (if at all), please let George know. Will
Martinez announced that Dean Hiss is back in Littleton Hospital . Bingo progressive is up to $5,630. and there were 111 players last night. Joe Geers stated that the Freedom Week lunch will be on Feb.15th at a Tech Center hotel. The Porter Hospital dinner “Soup for the Soul” signup sheet was passed around. Unfortunately, our Service to Mankind award winner passed away this week before receiving the award. King Soopers and Tony’s coupons are available each week. Please consider purchasing them! The whole group sang Happy Birthday to Dave Miley. The singing was not great, but the intent was there! There was no handshake prize. P.O.G. went to Norm Selby.

Sertoman of the Day

Mabe Downey was today’s Sertoman of the Day. He started off with his old faithful undercooked chicken joke and things just got more humorous as the discourse went on. He was born in Alabama , but grew up in Englewood . He spent a year at DU before entering the Air Force where he served in Korea . He then was a meter reader before opening an insurance office and eventually got into real estate. He was the charter Prez of the Sunset Sertoma Club before it faded and then got into the Arapahoe club. He has been married a couple of times and has 2 sons and 3 grandsons. Thanks Mabe for a unique and fun presentation. His fiver went to Rick Campbell.

Today’s program was appropriately introduced by Joe Geers, a two time kidney transplant recipient. Joe introduced Kerry McPherson with Mountain Aviation,Inc. They have the job of flying donated organs to the recipients. They have three types of fixed wing planes available, two are jets, the other a turbo prop. Kerry has had over fifteen years in the organ transport business and now has over 200 flights per year. He stated that there are 27 possible matches to see if the donor and recipient are compatible, 23 to 24 matches are the norm.  Donor Alliance , which Mountain Air is aligned with, has a primary area of influence which includes    18 states and 72 cities or towns. They stress safe flying and 24 hour availability. Kerry stated that from the time of a donor call they have 90 minutes to put the mission together and 4 hours in which to complete the trip. They have many companies that provide back up support including the U.S.Airforce at times. Kerry had some great stories from his many years of service. If you were not there, you missed a super program! Thanks Joe for bringing Kerry to speak to us.

Red Skelton’s Favorite Jokes

  • One day my wife ran after the garbage truck yelling “ Am I too late for the garbage?” The driver said “ No, jump in.”

  • I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. “ Somewhere I haven’t been for a long time!” she said. So I suggested the kitchen.
  • We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in Ontario and mine is in Tucson.
