A.C.T.S. is “A Community Taking a Stand” . . . against hunger, poverty and homelessness!
ACTS takes a stand against hunger… by providing emergency food to over 8,000 needy people each month bringing relief to those who have to choose between paying their rent or feeding their children, to those who struggle to buy their prescription drugs or keep their lights on, and to those may have lost their job or suffered a severe medical catastrophe crippling their household.
ACTS takes a stand against poverty… by providing emergency resources to those in need. Multitudes are suffering due to the economic downturn, and everyday we see a host of poverty-related needs running rampant. By offering a hand-up during crisis situations we believe this makes a happier and more productive community.
ACTS takes a stand against homelessness… by providing emergency shelter and transitional housing to homeless men. What makes ACTS unique is that our “homeless residents” are the success story behind our ability to distribute over 100,000 lbs. of food each month in feeding the multitudes!

Glenn Combellick mentioned their will be a meeting of the Foundation members next week.

Scott is looking for someone to “walk in his name” at the Celebrate Sound walk May 17th. It seems A-1 Scuba is having their raffle that day (and the 18th) and Scott is going to help them with that.

The Celebrate Sound Committee is pleased that Denver's Center for Hearing, Speech and Language plans to provide free hearing evaluations at the Southglenn Country Club during our fundraiser walk. However, we must have at least 100 registered walkers by April 17 or else it's not worth their audiologist's time. Tim has a poster and some cards of the event. http://www.mycelebratesound.org/centennial

Doug has set a date for the Past Presidents Meeting for Tuesday, April 22nd at Christ Luthern Church at 2695 S. Franklin St. Time: 7pm.

Doug also has Boy Scout Cards for $5 each he is selling for his grandson. These are the discount cards most of you are familier with. There str about $50 worth of discounts.

Rev. Jim Robinson was back and looking as good as ever….other then being in a wheel chair.

Bill Benton got a plug in for Elway Chevrolet (and didn’t have to pay a fine). They are having a picnic or something, I didn't get the details but see Bill if your interested..

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   No SOD do to the extra programs.

Program:   John Vierthaler introduced Dick Balderson. Longtime Braves talent evaluator Dick Balderson has opted to end a distinguished front office career that dates back to when he began working for Braves president John Schuerholz in Kansas City nearly 40 years ago.

Dick Balderson.jpg

Balderson, 67, has announced his retirement after spending the past 11 seasons serving as a special assistant to the general manager and Major League scout for the Braves. He joined Atlanta's organization in 1997 as a Major League scout and two years later became the club's director of player development, a position he would hold for four seasons.

While serving as the Braves general manager, Schuerholz took advantage of the chance to bring Balderson to Atlanta. Their relationship had developed while they worked in the Royals organization together during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

"Dick and I have known each other for a long time," Schuerholz said. "When I asked him to join our staff in Kansas City, it was a reflection of my respect for his knowledge of the game, his leadership skills and his judgment. I have high regard for Dick as a person and as a baseball executive, and we all wish him nothing but the best in his retirement."

After ending his playing career as a Double-A pitcher in Kansas City's organization, Balderson became the Royals assistant farm director in 1976. The position had formerly been held by Schuerholz, who by that time had been promoted to the club's director of player procurement and development.
