news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    No SOD as Johnny V. must have been in Pittsburgh researching his past.

Program:   Bob Schlageter introduced Courtney Fryxell who is the Development & Marketing Director for Freedom Service Dogs. If anyone would care to visit their facility they are in nearby Englewood at 2000 West Union Ave. 303/922/6231.

Freedom Service obtains dogs that have been abused, abandoned, neglected or otherwise mistreated.

These fine furry friends are retrained extensively to the point where they are ready to reenter society. A few (about 2 in 25) go through greater training becoming service dogs. There is no fee involved when obtaining the service dog. Some normal licensing and fees from your Vet could apply.

Service dogs are specially-trained to help perform a multitude of tasks that increase the independence of their human partners. What was once impossible becomes possible.

Daily tasks such as transferring in and out of a wheelchair are a big part of the amazing work of service dogs. People paired with service dogs show significant improvements psychologically, socially – even economically. Each person and their dog gain the independence from each other that they never could have found by themselves.

Service Freedom Dogs is a nonprofit 501-C entity receiving its capital funding through grants and individual donations.

This turned into a very pleasant presentation mainly because Courtney was an excellent speaker and fielded barbs from the audience very well – just like one of the group – her first words were; “How do I sign up to join this club?”        http://www.freedomservicedogs.org/
