Guests:  Fred Downs

Fines:  John Vierthaler was fined $1.00 for constantly asking questions of the SOD.

Bingo:   82 players and $4600 deposit.

Announcements:    Jim Rees and Joe Geers passed out 30+ year plaques to 5 of the six recipients that were at the luncheon.   Fred Downs, 30yrs; Bob Stein 31yrs; Bill Benton 33yres, Dick Enslow 34yrs; Rick Jacobus 35yrs and Dave Miley 36yrs. At least one person hasn’t received a plaque because we didn’t know he had over 30yrs so we will get that corrected. (Tom was NOT a winner)

John Pifer got an award for bringing Ken Kelley into the club.

Jack Marshall thanked all those that helped make the car raffle a success. Looks like we made about $7500, thanks to the last minute consortiums. The pres. was part winner, don’t know who else won on that ticket.

Doug Harder mentioned the Past President meeting at 7pm this Tuesday at the Christ Lutheran Church.

Couple new fund raisers: Friends for Family, May 1st, Friday. 303 745-0327 and The Listen Foundation May 2nd. See Jim Rees.

Greater Park Hill Sertoma Club is having a “Spring Fling” bridge party and luncheon Saturday, May 9th. For info, contact Bob Shoates 303 756-5414

We will have a car for the Soap Box Derby. Rick Campbell will engineer it and we have a 9 year old to drive it. At this time, he is weighing in at 38-lbs. More details on car and driver. The Derby is May 30-31. Anyone that wants to help with the car, contact Rick. There will be about 60 cars in the event this year. We will have a Lemon Aid stand also.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Dick Enslow was born Jan 23, 1942 in Aurora, Ill., near the Fox River. He went to school in the Aurora area and received a BS in Industrial Engineering. He went to work for Allis Chalmers. He came to Denver in 1973 for a job offer and was amazed at the weather so he moved here. He went to work for Materials Handling, then went into the reverse mortgage business several years ago but after being told they were going to train him at his expense, he retired.

Dick has been married to Carol for 44 years (he stumbled on that one). She did high school teaching, and then computer sales then went to work for a travel company that got bought out by Delta. They had great benefits. She last did student information systems for the Jeffco school district until she retired in April a couple years ago.

Dick has two kids. His daughter, Kedra, who has given Dick his first grandchild. Son Brad is a couple years younger then his sister and was married recently. He plays two man sand volleyball “professionally” (about $100 a year).

Dick was drafted when he was 21 but since he had dislocated his shoulder in high school several times he was rejected at the physical, they never contacted him.

Dick has a gift from a college fraternity brother in a hunting accident. A Pheasant flew up between the 2 of them and Dick got most of the shot which is still there.

Dick is currently serving as our Bingo chair which he took over from Pat McKim a couple years ago. He was brought into the club by the honorable Bill Parchen and was President with a gold coat and gone through most chairs.
