Guests:   Alice Perkins, Jim’s wife; Camden Lawhead, Jack Thompson’s grandson; Vicky Oren, Rev. Jim’s LSC

FINES:  To President Buckland and SGT@Arms Joe Gomez for lack of the Bell: To Jack Thompson for buying his G-son’s lunch by bringing him here for his birthday (even though it wasn’t).

Birthdays:   n/a

Announcements:    Tom Fry was absent today, his wife fell this morning and they had to call 911 and she is at a hospital.

There will not be a Program next week but instead a business meeting with several things to discuss and vote on. All members are encouraged to attend.

Doug Harder had his Past Presidents meeting again after lunch and has the new Officer’s list pretty well defined. Mr. Pat McKim stepped up to the plate and hit a home run by accepting the duties of President for the upcoming year. Now everyone else can breathe a little easier. We will vote on this slate but this is how it looks as of now:

Club President=Pat McKim; VP Sponsorship=Chad Kasson; VP Programs=Randy Smith; VP Membership=Gary Athey; Secretary=Mike Magee; Treasurer=Dick Mason; Sgt at Arms= Ed Bezjak & Bill Benton; Attendance & Publicity=Don Smith; Committees—Social=Orian Hunter; Ways & Means=Joe Gomez; Incentives=Clark Bennett.

Foundation Chairman=Tim Pollak; Carl Duncan, Jim Rees, Phil Grimm & Glenn Combellick.

It is the plan that all officers and committee chairmen will have a helper so if your name isn’t listed above, you will probably be a helper. We all have to pitch in to make the club strong.

Jack Thompson informed the club that he has a way for anyone wanting to play golf at the AF Academy on June 30th to let him know. You have to fill out a form first so if you want to play, let Jack know. $115 includes lunch.

Dave Miley brought up the up-coming Chamber Golf outing in June. More info to follow. Last year we had to worst 4-some and they won a special award (golf lessons).

Mike Magee mentioned the upcoming 9 HealthFair. $35 for a bunch of tests.

Scott passed around a sign-up sheet to solicit help with the A-1 Scuba Raffle to be held May 20 & 21. He can use some help so see if you can lend a hand on those dates. Here is the info on that event: A-1 Scuba info.jpg This year it is twofold, you can either win a trip for two to Cozumel and this benefits Craig Hospitals Therapeutic Recreation Department or a trip for two to the Philippines and this benefits American Veterans Experience Scuba Project.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Clarke Bennett got to his first SOD today. Clarke was born in 1948 in Torrington, CT. Clarke holds a B.A. in history and an M.A. in management and human resources. Clarke started his career as an assistant manager at K-Mart for over 3 years, putting in to many hours and doing more work than managing, then went on to being a materials manager at several hospitals in 4 states.

Clarke has been married to his wife Anne for over 48 years and they have 2 daughters. He joined Sertoma in 2016 and was sponsored by Gary Athey. He has held no positions as yet and enjoys the weekly meetings. His favorite pastimes are fixing up old toys, visiting flea markets and planting flowers. Clarke hops to travel to London, England and visit the Hunterian Museum. Listen to Clarke Bennett.mp3

Program:   Randy Smith introduced Brian Self, a Professional Speaker and Security Consultant. Brian Self is a field solution architect (FSA) for the CDW Security Assessment team. He has more than 15 years of experience in security and more than 20 years in IT overall.

Prior to transitioning to the FSA role, Brian was an engineer on the security assessment team, performing penetration tests and compliance work for customers in various different industries.

What Makes a Good Penetration Tester? A good penetration tester is curious, creative and persistent. We are unique, coming from many different walks of life, all driven by a desire to understand security weaknesses and risks – and how to keep others from exploiting them.

Cyber Detectives: Our mission is not only to find vulnerabilities, but also to explain how we exploited them. Think Sherlock Holmes sitting behind a laptop computer. We’re here to help organizations strengthen their overall security posture by illuminating security gaps that they may have and determining the level of risk they present. We help organizations holistically understand what they should be most concerned about for their business, as it relates to security and risk. To do this, we rely on a diverse set of skills.       Listen to Brian Self.mp3
