At the Board Meeting today, we asked for ideas for this year’s Christmas Party. Do we want an adult only party, a party with adults & kids? How about holding it at the Elks club? Do we want a $10 gift exchange???? What about a band or DJ, what type of music (one idea was 40’s music). We need ideas of what YOU want so write down some ideas and give them to the President.

We want to know how many in the club would be interested in taking the Royal Gorge Train or the George Town Loop for a ride as a club function. Think about it as more discussion to follow.

Orian wanted to pitch the “Together” play to benefit Bessie’s Hope. Several other clubs are thinking that Saturday, August 27th at 7:30pm would be a good date to make it a Sertoma Event. The play is at the Lakewood Cultural Center Theater, 470 S. Allison Pkwy, Lakewood. (See playbill) Orian will have the tickets at the “will call” window.

Joe Gomez brought up the idea of putting a 4-some together to play in the upcoming Golf For Fun event hosted by Golf 4 The Disabled on Sep 16th, a Friday at Broken Tee starting at 8am. http://www.golf4thedisabled.org/ A sign-up sheet was passed around. We have a foursome now but could have another if enough want to play.

Jim Rees brought us up to date on the King Soopers program. This 4 week period, we did terrible by only spending $3,750 but need $5,000 to get a return. The club receives 5% on any money spent at King Soopers and it doesn’t cost you anything to participate, you just need to use your special card and Jim can give you all the details on that.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Rick Campbell was born in Geneva, Illinois in 1953. Grew up in Illinois, went to High School at Glenbard West at Hilltop, it is still standing. Served in the military for 2 weeks, he was number 5 in the draft. Two weeks prior to reporting for basic, Nixon called off the draft but he did get inducted into the Army. Rick went on to College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Il. Started as an electrical engineer, but did not like the number crunching as much as fixing cars.

Rick went to college for a year. He came out to Colorado on a ski vacation and enjoyed walking around in a tee shirt in the middle of winter (1973) and decided to come out and stay permanently. He had met Renee when he was in High School, they started dating during college and she came along when Rick moved west in 1974. They have been happily married for 37 years and they have 3 girls. The eldest of his daughters is a teacher at Ft. Logan Elementary. The middle child is a nurse at Porter. The youngest is a homemaker due to the recently arrival of twins. Rick and Renee now have 7 grand kids. One of the grand kids was born on 5-5-05.

Rick runs an auto collision repair service (Auto Body & Frame Clinic of Colorado) which he opened in 1979 and it’s close to the Elks' club (which is convenient because of the poor driving abilities of the club). His dad was in the auto body parts business. He gave Rick a beat up car and told him by the time you get it all fixed up, you will be old enough to drive it. Dr. Tim brought Rick into the club and he has held several chairs including President & Chairman of the Board. Listen to Rick Campbell.mp3

Program:  Randy Smith introduced Rachel Davis, PhD and her talk today: Is Your Brain On Overload?.

(I’m not going to try to listen, then type what she said, listen to her audio. She also has a web page at: http://www.leadershipelevator.com/ Listen to Rachel Davis.mp3 )
