INVOCATION: This morning, Dr Thomas Fry revealed his connection with the Almighty. In the "thank you part" he gave thanks for Leslie for having saved us from the abyss of mediocre culinary arts. In the "request for part" he asked the Spirit to touch Buckland in some way so that he would pay for the beer some time at the pre-meeting social hour. The "blessing part" contained the usual.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Scott Manley was born 1947 in Denver at St. Joseph Hospital. Went to Park Hill elementary and then to East High. He attended UNC in Greeley and eventually earned a Master degree. He got a teaching degree and started teaching in Greeley, then went on to get a masters, later getting a doctorate at UNC in administration and counseling.

Scott worked at Craig Hospital for 36 years and met his wife, Cathy, there. They have two children, a son and a daughter and two grandkids now. Scott and Cathy are both retired. His son is carrying on the Manley tradition by working at Craig and his daughter is a nurse at Rose. Scott works with wood and tinkers with old cars. No military service, his draft number was 328 but he also had bad legs. The river was the Platte River. Dean Hiss brought him into the club. Scott used to work with Sertoma at Craig. Sertoma bought Craig the first van in the 1970’s.

Program:   DAVE AGUILERA, KCNC-TV week-end weather reporter on CBS channel 4 was the speaker. Dave gives talks to 5th graders and brought along some of the devices he uses to demonstrate aspects of weather. It was suggested that he lower the level of his talk so that various members of the club would be able to understand him Dave worked in several locations before coming to Denver 17 years ago. He explained how several measuring devises are used by several monitoring agencies to come up with predictions that are then presented on the TV.

Doug Harder was unanimously chosen to be the most windy member of the club, so Dave used him to illustrate the effects of moving air (not to be confused with passing gas). Dave used a closed in cabinet to create a small tornado when air is sucked out of it. He also explained how the person on TV can use a blank green screen behind him in order to point to significant weather patterns on the TV screen. Those who attended the meeting have a much clearer idea of what I am trying to describe.
