Announcements:   Dean gave a report on Gus. He looks good, good color but still no visitors. He had bleeding of the heart after his surgery. Jim Perkins read a thank-you note from Gus’s wife, Carolyn.

Don mentioned the NEW club photo page on OUR own web page. There are a LOT of photos, hope you don’t have a slow internet connection but if you do, just hang in there.

Club picnic Aug 14th at Clement Park, 11am and $13/person

The District Social is Aug. 19th.

Jim Rees passed a sign-up sheet around for Western Welcome Week of Aug. 21st.

Dick Enslow passed a sign up sheet for the Annual Arapahoe Sertoma Fall classic Golf Tournament. It is only four and a half weeks away, Sep 7th.

Will Martinez has King Soopers coupons. The club receives 5% but only 4 people regularly use the service. The card is like a debit card so it’s easy to use.

Orian Hunter started of by saying after 60 years, it’s the same ole story. Orian Hunter was born in Denver, not to far from the South Platte River but he didn’t mention the date. He went to schools all over the place, including Grad School in Wisconsin. He was a teacher in a couple states. .

Several years ago, Orian was teaching in Sterling and at Kingsburg but decided he was paying to much in taxes and decided to retire. Orian has a Principals License from the U. of Phoenix. He wanted to work for them so he sent his resume in and was hired, along with 75 other applicants. After all the training and classes, I think he said he did not get the job. He does teach for them in the evenings.

He is a grandpa with 3 grandsons and he found out one of them is like him. He is still married to Ellen after 37 years. They enjoy life riding around on their Vespas.

Orian’s military consisted of 2 years of Army ROTC. (he wasn’t even sure if it was Army, what do they teach people now a days?). He didn’t seem too disappointed when they asked him to hang up his uniform.

Orian was a President in 2001-2002 and claims two contributions to the club. 1) The Western Welcome Lemonade stand and 2) improving the speech pattern of a certain club member huh….huh…(well, that one didn’t pan out). The guy that brought him into the club is long gone from the club (I didn’t catch his name). His life goal now is to achieve a Perfect Attendance award.

Program:  Rick Jacobus introduced Mike Bohn – CU Athletic Dir. He gave some details on the possible move to the Pac-10. With exit and entry details possibly requiring more time to finalize than originally expected, the University of Colorado is building scenarios for a departure from the Big 12 Conference in 2011 as well as one in 2012 if the earlier exit can't be accomplished. .

"We'll be prepared with a significant change in our schedule for 2011 in the event we're in the Pac-10, and we'll be prepared for a schedule in the event we're (still) in the Big 12," Athletic Director Mike Bohn said Monday at the conclusion of the 16th Count Casotti Classic, a CU-sponsored golf outing at the Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club.

Bohn said there is "a big swing there . . . it'll be just whichever one we can get put together when we have our marching orders from our chancellor and our campus leadership team that's working on that.
"It's a challenge but that's why we've been very, very busy this summer. We've been focused on trying to be prepared for both scenarios."

Utah, which is leaving the Mountain West Conference to join the Pacific-10 Conference, hopes to begin football competition in its new league in 2011 - the same season Nebraska wants to open play in the Big Ten. A 2011 start likely would be the best-case scenario for CU, the Big 12 and the Pac-10, but particulars - including any monies owed the Big 12 by CU - are yet to be resolved.
"We have an idea of a range, but it's inappropriate to comment and have the wrong number out there and have that viewed by either league representatives as some type of posturing as we're working through that process," Bohn said. "It's complex, extremely complex."
He said a "financing model" associated with Pac-10 membership could be "part of the solution, but again that's unresolved as well . . . it's going to take us some time to get that right."
(the above is from and you get the complete story there).
