THIS WEEK IN REVIEW ....August 7, 2014
This weeks Reporter- Don Smith

Guests:    Rev. Robinson introduced Bryn Boyer: Rick Campbell introduced Bob, who is a customer of Rick’s and he is waiting for his vehicle to get fixed at Rick’s shop..

Fines:  Ken Kelley was fined for whining about his nominations: Tim for not standing when giving his comments..

Announcements:   Tim announced the club is planning on having the Lemon Aide Stand at the Western Welcome Week event on Saturday, Aug 16th. He had a “sign-up” sheet to pass around.

Ken attended the meeting today as both the Governor and as a club member. In his Governor roll, he gave a very short speech…”Thank You mister President”. As club member, he commented on his award for Sertoman of the Year but the club was misinformed as to his eligibility and our insufficient knowledge of the rules. After that, as Governor, he said “I think you are a great club”. (It’s tough having to wear 2 different hats).

Orian Hunter made it to lunch after missing a few weeks. He is looking well.

Dean informed the club that Don Nelson isn’t doing very well and probably will not be back to lunch. He is taking visitors at home.

Scott mentioned there is talk about doing another Pancake feed…to be discussed more later.

The Annual District Leadership Conference and Awards Banquet was Aug. 2nd and Don Smith won the award for Distinguished Club Secretary 2013-2014. Unfortunately, our nominee for Service to Mankind, Nancy Hortman, did not win. It was report in the paper this morning that she has to move out of one of the locations she has so that was not good news.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Bob Schlageter was born in 1942. I went all through the Englewood school system & graduated in 1960. Then I went to Colorado State University & about halfway through I decided I should have some military experience so I enlisted in the Colorado National Guard. I was in the 140th Combat Signal Battalion. I went to boot camp at Fort Ord, Calif. After that I was sent to Fort Irwin, Calif. This is a tank training facility in the middle of the Mojave Desert. After that I went back to C.S.U. & graduated with a degree in biological science. Later I got a master’s degree from the University of Colorado (Denver Center) in Urban Affairs.

After graduating from C.S.U. he took a job with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture as an inspector of fruits & vegetables. Then I was sent back to Calif. I lived in several different cities while I was in Calif. I started in San Jose. I was also in Watsonville, Gilroy, Salinas, & Santa Cruz. I was there about 3 years. Then I came back to Colorado in 1968. I took a job with the Denver Health Dept. I was there for 39 years. I inspected restaurants, & all types of food facilities, swimming pools, foster homes, massage parlors, & for several years I also investigated housing complaints. I retired in 2007.

Some of you have met Ginny. I’ve been hanging around with her for over 40 years. I have 2 step children – Jim & Tammy. I’ve been chairman of the ways & means committee, the incentives committee & in charge of attendance twice. I’m now the sponsorship chairman. I was brought into the club by the magical Mabe Downey in 2003. The nearest major river is the Platte. Listen to Bob Schlageter.mp3

It’s very easy, if you have someone in mind that is willing to come to one of our meetings, just open the link below and add their name and date…’s that easy. Look for any open dates and fill it it. If you have any trouble with that link or adding a name, contact Randy or Don for help.
