Announcements   Several dates that will cause us to NOT HAVE A MEETING:
Dec 26th & Jan 2nd. Please don’t show up expecting to find all your friends here.

It was mention that Don Nelson has a broken back and that is the reason we haven’t seen him for several weeks. FLASH.....just received from Scott:

Don-I called to see how Don Nelson was doing and he is home in a back brace due to a compression fracture at T-12. He is able to get around and can drive to medical appointments and hopes to be able to join us after the first of the year. He injured himself working our in the back yard and initially thought it was just a muscle strain but X-rays revealed a stress fracture. I told him to call on any one of us if he needed anything but he thought he had everything under control with the help of his daughter who lives with him. Please send this out to the boys so they know what's up. Thanks, Scott

Our best goes out to Don and his family.

Scott is still working on the club going to Wind Crest Living Communities for lunch in January or February.

Tim still has “Directories”….He also pitched his wife’s sorority’s Christmas Tree tour at a private residence in Castle Rock as a fund raising event for her sorority. Dec. 14th from noon to 4pm at a cost of $10. See Tim if interested, he will have tickets next week. Don’t take your camera or purse.

Birthday mention goes to Bruce Elsey.

Jim Rees ‘s update on the King Soopers program, for the last 8 weeks, the club received $601.

This is the LAST TIME I will report this: “The King” kept it very short (well, kinda). He did reminded us of the upcoming Club Christmas Party to be held at the Buell Mansion (again) on Dec. 13th and the cost has gone up to $49.50 per person BUT, last week the Board voted to cover $10 of that cost so it’s now $79 per couple. It is a BYOB event but DON’T BRING RED WINE or you will have to pull up the very expensive carpet. The event starts at 6pm for drinkies. Orian will provide the mixes for you. 7pm is eaties time. A couple folks still need to pay.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Bob Buckland was finally able to share his life story and a few other stories with the club. Bob “Bucky” Buckland: Born June of 1932 in Hartford, CT Hospital, 1-1/2 miles from the CT River. He was the 5th of 6 kids. Bob graduated from Hall High in W. Hartford and the school is still standing. He attended undergraduate school at the Univ. of CT 1950-1956 interrupted by 2 years in the U.S. Navy (51-53). Bob mentioned a time he was stationed in Alaska and on a simulated invasion drill, WE LOST. Thanks Bob.

Bob was a Group Rep for Prudential Insurance Co. 1956-1958. On 11/30/57 Bob married Betty and they had three children, Mac, Toddie & Freddie, all of them married now. Bob and Betty have 7 grand children and 8 GG-grandkids. Betty was a nurse. Recently, Bob reached his 81th birthday, became the only living child of his late parents, survived Prostate Cancer and celebrated the birth of another great grandson. On Feb. 23, one of his granddaughters was married in Cabo San Lucas to a wide receiver for the K.C. Chiefs and the family had lots of fun for 3 weeks.

Bob left Prudential and went to the Univ. of Conn. School of Law 1958-61 and was admitted to the Conn. Bar July 1961. He was an Atty. for Conn. Mutual Live from 1961 to 1964. Bob and Betty then moved to Denver in 1964 to go into sale for Conn. Mutual. He is still associated with its successor, Mass. Mutual but is “partly retired” now.

Dick Sorensen brought Bob into the Lodo Club but since they didn't have many members in the club, Bob liked the size of the Arapahoe Club and moved over to it. Listen to Bob Buckland.mp3

Program:   In lieu of a program, Scott informed the club of an upcoming meeting with S.W. Sertoma tomorrow about next year’s golf tournament. There are some changes going on with their club and a pivotal person that has been able to get several big sponsorships. Our club needs to decide how much effort we are going to put into the venture both in members helping out or getting sponsors.
