Don Nelson showed up to model his new brace which is supposed to keep him from bending to far forward and hurting his back again. Glad to see you back Don.

Doug shared a joke from Ed Bezjak who is in AZ. Ed wanted Doug to remind us, we all know the story about Rudolph the red nosed reindeer but did we know about Randolph the brown nosed reindeer. He could run as fast, he just couldn’t stop as quick.

Scott is still working on the club going to Wind Crest Living Communities for lunch in early February.

Birthday mention goes to Joe Dowdey and Mike Magee.

The 2013 Club Christmas Party turned out great and a big thank you and well done to the ladies that made it all possible. I believe they are: Alice Perkins, Barbara Magee, Marcia Marshall and Renee Campbell. Vernie Combellick did what she usually does when there is a piano in the room and at this time of year, that is playing Christmas songs. If I missed anyone, please let me know. Just before dinner started, the group was serenaded by The Original Dickens Carolers www.OriginalDickensCarolers.com

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Glenn Combellick finished off the year as our final SOD for 2013.

Glenn Combellick 2013.jpg

Glenn Combellick was born in Billings, MT on May 8th, 1924. He lived, attended school and fished there until he left to join the Navy. While there, he got into playing marbles and, at the age of 12, won the City Tournament. He also won the next year and he says those were his “athletic years”, 1936 and 1937, when he was in junior high school. Glenn played marbles in the dirt lot next to his house so much he had dirt embedded in his hand. He says he was a “good” kid and didn’t get caught doing anything bad.

Glenn graduated from high school in 1941 and was in the Navy from Dec. 3rd, 1942 until Sep. 29th, 1945. He stayed in the States the whole time, being trained. Then he came to Denver and graduated at DU in 1948, followed by passing his CPA exam and into private practice in Englewood for 27 years until he retired in 1976 at 52 years old. Married Vernie Aug 29, 1948 and has 4 kids, 8 grandkids and 2 great grandchild. He indicated his son in Alaska retires July 1 and will continue to live in Alaska.
Glenn has been a member of Arapahoe Sertoma since 1955 and brought into the club by the charter President. Thanks for being part of the club, Glenn.

Glenn shared some of his history while in the Navy and while growing up, listen to todays version here: GlennCombellick.mp3

Program:  The Program was a no show so Scott filled us in on what he and Dick Enslow learned when they attended a meeting concerning next year’s joint golf tournament. Some at S.W. didn’t think we brought in enough sponsors compared to the ones they got (we don’t have the same connections as they do). Another factor is that La Sertoma is no-more so that will be a blow to either or both clubs, someone will need to be in charge of the Silent Auction. S.W. is hoping that they gain about 6 new members from their member drive and if they do, they me want to take on the tournament without us. There is to be another meeting next month and we will see how that goes.
