Rick Jacobus says the Essays are in and his group read them for about 2 hours.

Kids Xmas party is scheduled for Dec. 22nd. More to follow. As published earlier, there will NOT BE A REGULAR MEETING.

It was discussed at the Board Meeting about having a regular meeting Dec. 29th. It was decided since we had missed a couple meetings during the year and that Thursday falls about midway between Christmas and New Years, THERE WILL BE A MEETING.

The enthusiastic Jim Rees has King Soopers coupons. The club receives 5% but only 4 people regularly use the service. The card is like a debit card so it’s easy to use. We sold a good portion of what we had to the Ralston Creek club.

SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:  usmc.gif

Dick Mason gave an update on his life and a few other tid bits. Dick, a Life Member, was born 11/12/45 in Quincy, Ill. The Mississippi River was next to his hometown. Three High Schools in town and he didn't graduate from any of them, he even tried to go to the all girls school.

(Dick looks sad because he just remembered that the Marines
are a branch within the Department of the Navy)

After being suspended from high school one to many times, he joined the Marine Corp. While in the Marines, he received his GED. Dick served almost four years and was an E-5 when discharged. He has a trip to Viet Nam and Hawaii on his military resume.

After getting out of the service, Dick married JoAnn 42 years ago, they met in study hall. He worked a little, then went back to Glendale Community College in Phoenix, where he graduated and then got a scholarship to DU. That plus the GI bill and his hard work got him through school by March of '72. Now a CPA (that does not stand for Cleaning, Pressing & Alterations), his firm was acquired and he has moved on to bigger and better things.

The Mason’s have three kids, sons Brian and Brandt, along with daughter Brandy. There is one Grandkid and he lives in California. Rick Jacobus brought Dick into the club about 21 years ago and he has served in a number of offices and is a Past President and Gold Coat recipient.

They have been brushed by the Tar and served before the mast since their creation, but today the U.S. Marine Corps is not a branch of the U.S. Navy - it is a separate service branch within the Department of the Navy, the civilian branch of the Department of Defense tasked with overseeing the Navy and Marine Corps.

Since the Navy and Marines have historically been so closely associated (Marines are embarked on Naval vessels, and the two have always participated closely in joint operations for many years) the decision was made to bring the two under one authority.

Even so, the two branches have their own separate and distinct Chain of Command - the Secretary of the Navy oversees the two, but the Navy is headed by the Chief of Naval Operations, while the Marines are commanded by the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Both officers are normally 4-star ranks.

Program:  George Hannes introduced Leslie Dawson and John Oslick, from the Animal Care Foundation. They came to fill us in about what they do for our little pets.

The Animal Care Foundation is a non-profit organization providing one-time, partial financial assistance for emergency or specialty veterinary care from VRCC to low income Colorado residents.
While there are programs providing spay/neuters, exams, and vaccinations to the needy, the Animal Care Foundation’s mission is to help with cases involving more complicated issues that require the expertise of a VRCC specialist or emergency doctor.

The Animal Care Foundation either donates a nominal amount to be applied against the bill of a client or when sufficient funds exist, up to 40% of the estimated charges. In these cases, qualifying clients are still required to pay for 40% of the estimated care plan and the veterinarian deducts 20% off their normal charges. Meeting needs of others requires the help of many. Your help is greatly appreciated.
