THIS WEEK IN REVIEW .... February 7, 2013
This weeks Reporter- Don Smith

news_l3.gif Started without any leadership      news_l4.jpg Dave Miley     news_l5.gif   Rev. Robinson

Guests:   Bryn Boyer, guest of Rev. Robinson

Chris Tucker from Lodo club came to distribute the blankets that we had ordered. He said you can still order a blanket by Mar 1st, call Chris at 720 297-5151; also he informed us of a couple other fund raising events they have, one is a Beer and Wine Tasting event Feb. 24th from 1pm to 4pm at Old Chicago Restaurant, 16990 E. Iliff Ave, Aurora, call Mike Bruha at 720 435-0653 or e-mail:

Kevin Sausker, from Central Trim, was a guest of Rick Jacobus.

Fines:  Dave Miley’s table was fined for kicking Miley to another table;
The Sgt-@-Arms was fined for not overseeing the “Fine Pot” name tags….Seems Rick Campbell’s nametag is missing or modified because Pat McKim apparently crossed out Rick’s name and placed his own on it. Pat was fined but not enough for such a dastardly dead.
Dick Mason was fined for a “lack of decorum”.

Announcements:  Peter was absent so Scott Manley took over the Gavel.

Scott read an inscription on our Bell “Returned by South Valley Sertoma 7-22-82” and he wanted to know what it meant. He had a $1 for the first “old timer” to explain what it meant and Tom Fry was the first to answer. Then, the King got involved; he wanted to contribute a dollar to anyone that can tell us the last time a bell was stolen from another club; Which club was it and Who was the President at that time. Miley jumped up and read the inscription off our Bell …BUT, that is wrong. The answers are: We stole it from Lodo and the King was President (we should have known).

Dick Enslow, (announcing how much of a pleasure it is to speak to this club), as Chairman of the Arapahoe Sertoma / S.W. Sertoma Charity Golf Outing to be held at Pine Hurst on July 15th, met with John Collins (who was the Chairman last year) for an initial meeting to try to fill positions of responsibility for the upcoming Outing. A meeting directly after lunch today will be held and any interested parties are invited to sit in and over support and ideas. Dick is attending a meeting at Pine Hurst at 5pm today to get things going.

Tim Pollak attended 2 meetings last week of significance to the club: One was an organizational meeting for The Walk that Sertoma Int. is encouraging clubs to have as a national fund raiser as a way to get the name of Sertoma out to the public (The Walk will take place in 2014). The other was a meeting of the Sertoma Promotion Club with a presentation by the International Hearing Dogs Society and we might want to invite them to our club for a presentation.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Rick Campbell showed up late and was picked for the SOD today. Rick Campbell was born in Elgin, Illinois in 1953. Grew up in Illinois, went to High School at Glenbard West at Hilltop. It is still standing. Served in the military for 2 weeks, he was number 5 in the draft. Two weeks prior to reporting for basic, Nixon called off the draft but he did get inducted into the Army. Rick went on to College of DuPage in Illinois. Started as an electrical engineer, but did not like the number crunching as much as fixing cars.

CLick on image above for current version:

Rick went to college for a year. He came out to Colorado on a ski vacation and enjoyed walking around in a tee shirt in the middle of winter (1973) and decided to come out and stay permanently. He had met Renee when he was in High School, they started dating during college and she came along when Rick moved west in 1974. They have been happily married for 35 years and they have 3 girls. The eldest of his daughters is a teacher at Ft. Logan Elementary. The middle child is a nurse at Porter. The youngest is a homemaker due to the recently arrival of twins. Rick and Renee now have 7 grand kids. One of the grand kids was born on 5-5-05.

Rick runs an auto collision repair service which he opened in 1979 and it’s close to the Elks' club (which is convenient because of the poor driving abilities of the club). His dad was in the auto body parts business. He gave Rick a beat up car and told him by the time you get it all fixed up, you will be old enough to drive it. Dr. Tim brought Rick into the club and he as held several chairs including President. Listen to RickCampbell.mp3

Program:   Do to the cancelation of the scheduled program, last week, Doug said he would come up with a program for this week and did he. His son Zach, who took a slew of photos at the Buell Mansion Christmas / 60th Anniversary Party, came to give us a photo essay of that party along with several Christmas song played in the background (one I really loved, it was O Holy Night by Josh Groban and you can see and hear it on Youtube at)

Very fine job Zach. Don Smith announced that Zach should be our “Honorary Photographer” from now on. You can hear Zach give a little history of his daughter and her soccer experience. Listen to ZachHarder.mp3
