Since the Reporter was the SOD this week, somehow we didn't get a substitute reporter (and I was at safety classes for work so I was unable to be there to fill in). So, I thought since we had the passing of one of our members, I would post the Obituary here. Bill Parchen passed away last week and he will be missed.
William "Bill" K. Parchen, 74, died February 7, 2007 at the Porter Hospice in Centennial, CO, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Bill was born on July 19, 1932 in Falls City, NE, but soon moved to Lincoln, NE. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. Bill spent two years in the Naval Reserve during high school and while attending the University of Nebraska. He the enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an Air Policeman while stationed in Panama.
When he returned to civilian life, he moved to Colorado, married Jean Thomas, also from Lincoln, and began work as a police officer in Englewood. He started a real estate business and later a warehouse and distribution business that kept him busy until he retired in 1995.
Other than his family, Bill's passion was golf. In 1973, Bill and Jean joined Pinehurst Country Club where he eventually served as president. While serving in the Arapahoe Sertoma Club he helped put on several charity golf events that featured President Gerald Ford and professional golf legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicholas, Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin, and Tom Watson. Bill and Jean traveled extensively and played many of the country's most famous and interesting courses. They were also active in the Shrine Sandblasters Golf Club.
Bill was active in the community through Arapahoe Sertoma Club as President, 1965-1966; Englewood Police Benefit Association, the Arapahoe-Littleton Boys' Baseball Association, the Santa Claus Shop, El Jebel Shrine Temple, and recently was elected Director of the Royal Order of Shrine Jesters.
