Gary Athey showed the club an idea still in the making, a club membership / bio notebook with information on the club, the members and anything else we can think of to be given to all members but especially new members or anyone wanting to know more about us. First thing we want to do is get current, up to date info on all members so download this sheet, fill it out and return it to Gary or Don. You will be nagged to death until you get one done. Bio Worksheet1.doc We will have them at the next lunch also.

Bill says we are now officially members of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce (once the check clears).

It was mentioned at the Board Meeting that we will be looking for a Service to Mankind and a Sertoman of the Year in the not too distant future. Put your thinking cap on and come up with some ideas.

Dave Miley is still working on the go-cart track in Highlands Ranch,

Rick Jacobus had a “sign-up sheet” to pass around for the last time for the upcoming Freedom Week event Feb. 16th, a Tuesday so there will NOT be a lunch that Thursday, the 18th. For the new members that didn’t know what Freedom Week is, Rick gave a short description and history. The board voted to pay for your meal at $27 each.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter..

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Dick Laskey returned today to be our SOD. Dick was born 8-15-48 in Detroit Michigan, he says he enjoyed the area as a young lad but not now, it’s just not the same. His grandfather was a dentist who worked on notables such as Race Beamer of early radio fame and baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb.

His high school is closed and his rivers were the Detroit & Rouge rivers. Dick joined Sertoma in 1980 and has served in many of the club offices including President (Gold Coat) in 1986, Treasurer, etc. plus the highly regarded position of Bingo Captain.

Dick has been married to Linda since 1970 and they have a daughter and a son plus two grandkids. He earned an accounting degree at Kalamazoo U. and moved to Colorado in 1973 when he heard CPA’s were needed in the Denver area. He came out to visit a collage friend and got a job. Dick had no military.

Dick said he keeps missing the meetings because by the time he looks at the clock, it’s 2pm but he plans on attending more often now.

Program:   Dave Miley introduced Eric Keck, the new Englewood City Manager. This was Eric’s first visit to Arapahoe Sertoma and he had a lot to say about what is happening in Englewood now. He had so much to talk about he ran over in time so he may have to come back in the near future.

Englewood has chosen Eric A. Keck, a former executive with a mining equipment firm and a former city administrator in Idaho, as its new city manager.

Keck was selected from a field of six finalists after a months-long nationwide search and will begin the job Sept. 15. He replaces Gary Sears, who held the position for 17 years.

Keck most recently served as chief operating officer of Ground Force Worldwide, a global mine support equipment manufacturing firm in Post Falls, Idaho. Prior to that, he was Post Falls' city administrator for six years.

"I am humbled and excited about this opportunity to serve the residents, businesses, and council of Englewood," Keck said in a statement. "I look forward to the opportunity to learn from all of the stakeholders in the community about what is working well, what needs improvement, and help to build consensus on a mutually agreeable future state for Englewood."
