This weeks Reporter- Don Smith

news_l3.gif --       news_l4.jpg Dave Miley     news_l5.gif   Rev. Robinson

Guests:   Bryn Boyer, Rev. Robinson guest: Mary Hewett from Dry Creek club.

Fines:  Phil Grimm was fined for his introduction of Mary Hewett who was sitting at Table 1.
And as you can imagine, Table 1 was fined for a guest.

Mary came to push the Dry Creek’s chocolate sale fund raiser they have done for a couple years. The chocolate, Worlds Finest Chocolate, brings in money that is donated to Dr’s Care, a program that the Arapahoe club has donated to. Mary passed around an order form but if you missed it, get in touch with the Dry Creek club, Mary Hewett or Carol Worth. http://www.doctorscare.org/

Dick Enslow proposed a “refund” to Dave Miley for the fine he incurred last week because this week he had a “company”. The “refund” passed.

Doug Harder proposed a fine for “any CPA that sits behind him”…..meaning Glenn Combelick..for calling Doug a Fat Bast&%$##. Passed. (We had to get a substitute Sgt. @ Arms to collect the fines).

Announcements:  Peter announced that the program we had for next Thursday will not be able to attend due to surgery, he will be rescheduled.

Glenn informed us that Carl Duncan’s wife passed away a couple days ago.

John Vierthaler said Dick Laskey had back surgery Monday morning and is doing great at this time. His pain was so bad Saturday he called the emergency guys. He can already feel the difference.

Dave Miley shared a story about Sven and Ole going to see the diet Dr. after packing the pounds on over the holidays.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Bob “Bucky” Buckland: Born June of 1932 in Hartford, CT Hospital, 1-1/2 miles from the CT river. He was the 5th of 6 kids. Bob graduated from Hall High in W. Hartford and the school is still standing. He attended undergraduate school at the Univ. of CT 1950-1956 interrupted by 2 years in the U.S. Navy (51-53). Bob mentioned a time he was stationed in Alaska and on a simulated invasion drill, WE LOST. Thanks Bob.   He also mentioned being in Alaska was like being in prison....At least in prison, you could have guests.

Bob was a Group Rep for Prudential Insurance Co. 1956-1958. On 11/30/57 Bob married Betty
and they had three children, Mac, Toddie & Freddie, all of them married now. Bob and Betty have 7 grand children and 8 GG-grandkids. Betty was a nurse. Recently, Bob reached his 80th birthday, became the only living child of his late parents, survived Prostate Cancer and celebrated the birth of another great grandson. On Feb. 23, one of his granddaughters will be married in Cabo San Lucas to a wide receiver for the K.C. Chiefs and the family plans on lots of fun for 3 weeks.
Bob left Prudential and went to the Univ. of Conn. School of Law 1958-61 and was admitted to the Conn. Bar July 1961. He was an Atty. for Conn. Mutual Live from 1961 to 1964. Bob and Betty then moved to Denver in 1964 to go into sale for Conn. Mutual. He is still associated with its successor, Mass. Mutual but is “partly retired” now.

Dick Sorensen brought Bob into the Lodo Club but since they didn't have many members in the club, Bob liked the size of the Arapahoe Club and moved over to it. Listen to BobBuckland.mp3

Program:   Pat McKim introduced an old friend of his, Matt Feeney from Adaptive Adventures.

Matt Feeney was an avid mountain biker and skier when a cliff diving accident at Lake Powell in 1988 left him paralyzed from the waist down. In 1991, Feeney left the financial industry in Denver and moved to Winter Park to pursue adaptive ski racing and become more involved in outdoor recreation. After training and competing with the Winter Park Disabled Ski Team, Feeney joined forces with Home Health Care giant, Sunrise Medical, as a team member and national spokesperson.

In 1993, Feeney was hired by The National Sports Center for the Disabled to coordinate the Sit-Ski Program, which, under Matt's direction, grew to over 300 volunteers and became responsible for thousands of ski lessons annually. Matt is a two-time U.S. off-road champion and an accomplished handcyclist and ski instructor. Feeney brings his extensive knowledge in adaptive sports and recreation to the Adaptive Adventures team, and enhances the lives of others who face similar challenges.

Founded by a group of physically challenged individuals in 1999, Adaptive Adventures saw a need to increase awareness and participation in disabled sports and recreation for people of all ages. We have a steadfast vision to one day meet the needs of the entire family. Adaptive Adventures is driven by our belief in "freedom through mobility" and our core values include affordability, independence and leadership. Adaptive Adventures plays an active role in the community as a contributor and as a benefactor and current events have allowed us to focus on paving the way for recently injured soldiers with disabilities to realize a better quality of life.
