news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:  Tim Pollak, with a PhD on the wall, brought us up to date on his life story. Tim was born Sep. 6, 1945 on the south side of Chicago. Probably while still in the hospital, their apartment caught on fire and the family moved to the Rogers Park area of Chicago. When in first grade, they moved to Evanston and he went through all grades there. The high school was so large, he went to “East Hall” high school in Evanston.

At 15, he was active in youth groups, debating life. They decided there was no universal purpose to human life. Because of that, he decided to go into clinical psychology. He attended Antioch College and their “cooperative plan of education (classes for one quarter then work in the field for a quarter). He worked in Phoenix, AZ; Boston, MA; Skokie, IL and San Jose, CA to name a few.

Tim was a “consciences objector” at the time of the Viet Nam war and worked in several hospitals instead of fighting. He was accepted to DU in Social Work but wondered why he never heard from the U. of TN. After a phone call and an interview, he was accepted. He graduated with a PhD in Clinical Psych. from the Univ. in 1979.

Tim married the first time in 1981, divorced in 1982, met Ruth in 1983 and married her in 1984. (He didn’t mention what happened in 1985 but it had to be good). Tim and Ruth have their own counseling service called Re Leaf Counseling (303 972-0714). He was introduced to the club in 1989 by Barney O’Grady with Dean Hiss’s help. Tim was club President in 2003/04 and has been very active in the club over the years and was our Sertoman of the Year in 2006.

Dr. Tim has also been doing work on helping people who have Phobias and says it only takes a few minutes with outstanding results. He works out of his house so give him a call. (303) 972-0714 Listen to Tim Pollak.mp3

Program:  Randy Smith introduced author Bill Cherf. Bill has just finished the 5th book in a series that has taken him a couple years to write. Bill holds degrees in Egyptian Archaeology and Ancient History. His academic publications focused upon Roman Greece and Egyptology. He lives in Denver and is the Secretary of the Egyptian Study Society.

Author of the award-winning historical science fiction pentology: Manuscripts of the Richards' Trust, now all five - Bow Tie, Recovery, Children of Ptah, Imhotep, and Maat-ka-re are available through,, and all three book stores of the Tattered Cover in Denver.

W.J. Cherf has always wanted to write a book without footnotes, to tell a fascinating tale that is so real that his avid readers are left puzzled over what was real and what was Memorex. To craft such a tale takes wit, a love of science fiction, and above all a deep reverence for ancient history and archaeology. All of these qualities are stitched together beautifully in his books, because Cherf has been there, dug that. He’s even seen the sun rise from atop the Great Pyramid.

Bill also mentioned a fund raising event to help combat veterans: Here is the link to the orginization, more info on the event when it comes out.          Listen to Bill Cherf.mp3
