THIS WEEK IN REVIEW ....July 14, 2016
This weeks Reporter- Don Smith

Guests:    Alice Perkins, Jim’s wife: Vicky Oren, Rev. Jim’s LSC; Renee Campbell, Rick’s wife; Jim Britton, guest of Norm.

FINES:  Randy never misses a chance to fine the acting President so he fined Bill Benton for poor training of Bob Stein who filled in for Buckland who is gone for a couple days. Rick Campbell for bringing his wife on their anniversary? Or just for bringing her so we can make her feel welcome.

Birthdays:   Rick Campbell, Dean Hiss and Rick Jacobus are just a little older around this time of year.

Announcements:   Today was President Bob Buckland’s second day on the job and he was absent.

It was mentioned at the Board Meeting and a follow up phone call from Bill Benton that we want to know how many in the club would be interested in taking the Royal Gorge Train or the George Town Loop for a ride as a club function. Think about it as more discussion to follow.

Another item brought up was the idea of moving the start of lunch to 12:00. More to follow.

The Net Income from the A-1 Scuba Raffle was $8327.54 and $8300 will be donated to Craig Hospital.

Joe Gomez brought up the idea of putting a 4-some together to play in the upcoming Golf For Fun event hosted by Golf 4 The Disabled on Sep 16th, a Friday.     http://www.golf4thedisabled.org/

Don read off the list of last year’s Perfect Attendance winners: Benton, Enslow, Harder, Manley, Miley, Rees, Schlageter and Don Smith. (It took 2 seconds for Bill to object to the mistake Don made in reading the list, he said Athey instead of Benton…..I think it’s time for a new keeper of the attendance, Don is just getting to old to do the job any more.

Tim asked “who needs new Directories this year”. If you didn’t say so today, let him know so he can order them.

It appears we will NOT participate in this year’s Western Welcome Week. The main reason was the poor location they assigned us last year. We are asking them if they can give us a better spot or we may not do it this year. Apparently we have not heard back from them.

Aug 21st is the 5th Annual John Elway golf tournament. If interested, see Bill. $125 to play.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    John Vierthaler was born in 1941, the son of Immigrants. His Father is from Austria and fought in WWI for the Kaiser. His mother was from the Austria-Hungarian Empire. They both immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA independently and met while they lived there. John was born in Pittsburgh and grew up on the Ohio River.

John went to Aspen Wall HS in Aspen Wall, PA. It was torn down about 10 years after he graduated. John went on to Grove City College in Grove City, PA., a private college founded by the heirs of the Sun Oil Company. It is a very independent college.

In 1963, he was in Air Force ROTC because they had mandatory military service and paid $30 a month. Graduated with a commission as a 2nd Lt. Spent 3 years in Atlanta, "defending our nation". Went to Law School at Emery University in Atlanta, GA at night. Got out of the military and transferred all his credits to the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law and graduated a year later. Worked for Alcoa as a corporate attorney. Later went to work for his father-in-law. By this time he was up to three kids. The family used to come up to Colorado to ski. After four years of trips, Brenda, his wife, convinced John to move to Colorado. He moved out with two adults, three kids, two dogs, and two cats. (They lost one of their cats in Russell, Kansas).

Brenda passed away a few years ago, then he was remarried for a short time and now he is single BUT, he just informed us that he is engaged to Cindy. He farms for a hobby, tends dry land and raises horses and chases coyotes on horseback for fun. Name of the farm is “Four Valley Farm” because in Austrian his name translates into "four valleys". BUT, he just informed us he is getting out of that business and going to have a sale of all his equipment. He does not plan on retiring though, he just signed a 5 year lease on his building.

Program:  Randy Smith introduced Chet Myers who buys tax liens as a way to learn income. Are you considering tax lien investing as a strategy? If you take the time to learn the ropes, you'll discover why real estate is the best wealth-builder in the universe--the safest, most accessible, most lucrative investment you can make. You'll also find out how to use your real estate investments to create multiple income streams and have a river of money flowing your way every day.

As an example, do you know how to invest in Tax Lien Certificates and Tax Deeds? Briefly, state, county and local governments raise money to provide benefits and services via taxation. One type of taxation, is a tax on "real property." Pursuant to statute, the owner of a parcel of real property is assessed a dollar amount to pay based on the value of that real property.
