Two separate renditions of "the song" were presented today. The cacophony was overwhelming, and thankfully there were no guests that might have been unimpressed.

Announcements:  Howie Kelsall and Bob Stein are battling some health issues. Both are at home and we look forward to seeing them at next week's meeting.

Joe Dowdey noted that many things routinely handled by BILL WORTH are now overlooked. One such ceremony is the recognition of the past President. In true Bill Worth fashion, Dowdey presented Jack Marshall the Past President Plaque and the scrap book of the past year's events. Thank you Jack for a job well done!

Soapbox Derby: A Soapbox Derby is upcoming in the first part of August. The District is seeking volunteers to staff the event.

Golf Tournament: The Park Hill Sertoma Club is having their annual golf tournament on Monday, August the 7 th. Our club will be sponsoring a foursome. Be ready to put your name in the hat if you wish to play. Member contribution will be around $50.

Cajun Cookout: Parchen announced that the annual Cajun Cookout is rapidly approaching. It will be held on Saturday, July 29th at Sterns Park in the South Shelter. This is the same location as last year. Maps are available from Parchen. Cost will be $7.50 for adults, $3.75 for older children and kids under 10 eat free. Games will abound so bring those kids and grandkids! This will be a potluck so please bring a side dish or a dessert. Meat and drink will be provided by the club. Signup sheet is still in circulation.

Bingo Report: McKim reported that although there were only 92 players, C Team deposited over $5K. He also noted that NET INCOME for May and June is about $5K and at this rate net income will be about $30K for the year.

Play: George Hannes announced an upcoming play on August 24 th at the District level. Signup sheet was passed. See George for more details.

Directories: Tim Pollak needs to know how many members are needing directories. Costs will be $5.00 for each filler and $5.00 for each cover. Please contact Tim and let him know if you will be needing a directory as soon as possible.

Lemonade Stand: Tim Pollak sent out a sign up sheet for the lemonade stand for Saturday August 19. McKim led the signers in hopes that lightning "or whatever" might strike again.

Mexican Brunch: Jack Marshall wanted to remind everyone of his open invitation to a Mexican Brunch on Sunday, July 23 rd. The brunch starts at 10:00 am - 2 pm. Members of the club are invited and are asked to RSVP to Jack. A sign up sheet was passed.

King Soopers Coupons: Mike Magee put in a plug for the King Soopers coupons. These coupons contribute straight to the club, so if you shop at King Soopers, then please, please do it with coupons. See Mike for more details.

SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Dave Miley was born in Indianapolis IN in 1941. His parents moved to Englewood in 1945, and brought Dave and his brother along. Dave attended Englewood High school were he met Karen. They have been married since 1959. Dave won the Bronze Star for service in the Air Force in Viet Nam. Harder brought him into the Arapahoe Sertoma Club in 1973. Dave is a past President and a past Governor. Steve Bolyard won the "flying five".

PROGRAM:   Program Director Barney O'Grady introduced JOHN CALDERA, talk show host on 850 KOA and on channel 12 on Friday night. Caldera in the president of the Independent Institute, a tax exempt entity supported solely by donations. The 15 employees of the institute work with the Governor and the legislature to draft policies that promote more individual ownership of their lives and less government interference. Caldera calls this the creation of an Ownership Society. Using their web site, pod casts, and any other means of reaching the public, the institute promotes a flat tax, term limits, open school enrollment, school vouchers, a school report card system, freedom of choice in many aspects of our lives and a toleration for the choices made by others.
