Guests:    Alice Perkins, Jim’s wife: Vicky Oren, Rev. Jim’s LSC; Bill Hershenow, guest of Scott and Dean.

FINES:  Orian

Birthdays:   Doug’s wife, he called her and we sang Happy Birthday to her.

Announcements:   Today was to be the first day of starting lunch at 12:00 since it was voted on last week. We would like to continue starting at this time IF we all agree it will work. Old habits are hard to break and it isn’t set in stone yet but try to be there by 12 and let’s see how it works. The idea is to give the Program a little more time and because some SOD’s take more than the 10 minutes for their presentation.

We want to know how many in the club would be interested in taking the Royal Gorge Train or the George Town Loop for a ride as a club function. Think about it as more discussion to follow.

Joe Gomez brought up the idea of putting a 4-some together to play in the upcoming Golf For Fun event hosted by Golf 4 The Disabled on Sep 16th, a Friday at Broken Tee starting at 8am. A sign-up sheet was passed around.

Aug 21st is the 5th Annual John Elway golf tournament. If interested, see Bill. $125 to play.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Bob “Bucky” Buckland: Born June of 1932 in Hartford, CT Hospital, 1-1/2 miles from the CT River. He was the 5th of 6 kids. Bob graduated from Hall High in W. Hartford and the school is still standing. He attended undergraduate school at the Univ. of CT 1950-1956 interrupted by 2 years in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman (51-53) He said he could copy Morse code at about 85 wpm. Bob mentioned a time he was stationed in Alaska and on a simulated invasion drill, WE LOST. Thanks Bob.

Bob was a Group Rep for Prudential Insurance Co. 1956-1958. On 11/30/57 Bob married Betty and they have three children, Mac, Toddie & Freddie, all of them married now. Bob and Betty have 7 grandchildren and 8 GG-grandkids. Betty was a nurse. Recently, Bob reached his 83rd birthday and is the only living child of his late parents, survived Prostate Cancer and celebrated the birth of another great grandson.

Bob left Prudential and went to the Univ. of Conn. School of Law 1958-61 and was admitted to the Conn. Bar July 1961. He was an Atty. for Conn. Mutual Live from 1961 to 1964. Bob and Betty then moved to Denver in 1964 to go into sale for Conn. Mutual. He is still associated with its successor, Mass. Mutual but is “partly retired” now.

Dick Sorensen brought Bob into the Lodo Club but since they didn't have many members in the club, Bob liked the size of the Arapahoe Club and moved over to it.

Program:  Orian took charge as Orian does and gave a presentation that almost put everyone to sleep or they were about to throw him out of the building. Orian wanted to pitch the “Together” play to benefit Bessie’s Hope. Several other clubs are thinking that Saturday, August 27th at 7:30pm would be a good date to make it a Sertoma Event. The play is at the Lakewood Cultural Center Theater, 470 S. Allison Pkwy, Lakewood. (See playbill)
