At Arms Bob Schlageter

The future Arapahoe Sertoma Foundation will be manned by: Glenn Combellick, Tim Pollak, Phil Grimm, Bob Buckland and Carl Duncan.

You better read this fast because the event is in a couple hours: Orian had more information on the upcoming Induction (Intimidation) Banquet at Red Rocks CC to be held June 12th. Click the highlighted text for more info. The Board did vote to off set some of the dinner cost so what is your excuse for not going? Drinks at 6, dinner at 7pm. Someone take a camera.

The Board of Directors has voted to sponsor one 4 man team in Southwest Sertoma's Annual Golf tournament on Monday, July 13, 2015. Bob Stein mentioned he had sent an e-mail to all that were drawn. Sponsor means the club will pay $125 and each player pays $75. If those that are signed up can’t play, let Bob know so he can get a replacement.

Deadline of about July 1st to submit Sertoman of the Year and Service to Mankind Award winners.

Rick Jacobus mentioned he can get some Rockies tickets at about half price….see him if you’re interested. June 19th against the Brewers, 3rd base box seats in section 144. Your cost: $23 and it’s an evening game.

At the Board meeting, there was a clairification on the Net proceeds from the Poker night. The total was about $5,800 and the reason was the “bank” wasn’t figured in on the previous report but that is still a nice little income for the club.

It was reported that the Rev is out fishing…..if not, he is fine. Dean didn’t show up either, seems someone forgot to pick him up thinking Dean was moving.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:     Tim Pollak, with a PhD on the wall, brought us up to date on his life story. Tim was born Sep. 6, 1945 on the south side of Chicago. Probably while still in the hospital, their apartment caught on fire and the family moved to the Rogers Park area of Chicago. When in first grade, they moved to Evanston and he went through all grades there. The high school was so large, he went to “East Hall” high school in Evanston.

At 15, he was active in youth groups, debating life. They decided there was no universal purpose to human life. Because of that, he decided to go into clinical psychology. He attended Antioch College and their “cooperative plan of education (classes for one quarter then work in the field for a quarter). He worked in Phoenix, AZ; Boston, MA; Skokie, IL and San Jose, CA to name a few.

Tim was a “consciences objector” at the time of the Viet Nam war and worked in several hospitals instead of fighting. He was accepted to DU in Social Work but wondered why he never heard from the U. of TN. After a phone call and an interview, he was accepted. He graduated with a PhD in Clinical Psych. from the Univ. in 1979.

Tim married the first time in 1981, divorced in 1982, met Ruth in 1983 and married her in 1984. (He didn’t mention what happened in 1985 but it had to be good). Tim and Ruth have their own counseling service called Re Leaf Counseling (303 972-0714). He was introduced to the club in 1989 by Barney O’Grady with Dean Hiss’s help. Tim was club President in 2003/04 and has been very active in the club over the years and was our Sertoman of the Year in 2006.

Dr. Tim has also been doing work on helping people who have Phobias and says it only takes a few minutes with outstanding results. He works out of his house so give him a call. (303) 972-0714 Listen to Tim Pollak.mp3

Rick Jacobus couldn’t get the Freedom Week award winner so he got Randy Penn to fill in. Randy is the Mayor of Englewood and has been here several times in the past but may not be here again in the roll of Mayor since his term is about to run out.

Randy is always an entertaining speaker and he had a lot to say so instead of me trying to relay it all, please listen to his speech: Randy Penn.mp3
