news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Robert Douglas Harder (alias Doug) was born September 2, 1937 (Labor Day) in an oil camp in Houston, Texas near the Rio Grande River. He didn’t stay there long enough to get tall. Doug attended grade schools in Louisiana and Missouri and the 5 th through 11 th grade (minus one year) in Casper, Wyoming. While in the fourth grade, he had Scarlet Fever. He finished high school in Englewood.

Doug was in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965 (or 66) and said his squad did a fabulous job of keeping the Commies out of GA. After that, he attended CU and UNC and retired as a Mortgage Broker. To keep him out of trouble now, he mows the back nine at Raccoon Creek. He also has been a member of Pastor Robinson church, Christ Lutheran for over 45 years and an Elder for 38 years. Shortly after the Katrina disaster, he and Pastor Robinson went down there with a disaster relief team. He said you never want to see such destruction.

Doug has been married to Carolyn over 45 years and they have 4 children and 10 grandkids. Their oldest, Zach, was a member for a short time.

oug was brought into the club by Bill Parchen and has been president twice and has a Gold coat. He has been on the Foundation Committee and brought in over 50 members to Sertoma. (way to go Doug)

I wanted you to know about a new program created by District Attorney Carol Chambers. The program is designed to assist victims of crime in understanding the criminal justice process. The criminal justice system can be very intimidating, and this program explains to victims how the system works and what they can expect. Because the system is intimidating, many victims do not report to the authorities. For that reason we want to stress that ANY victim can attend one of these sessions, even if they have not reported their victimization. Our hope is that having attended the session they will be less intimidated and come forth to file a complaint. So whether they have reported or not, any victim is encouraged to attend.

There is an excellent article at: which provides more details. We would appreciate your sharing this information with as many people as possible. If you have questions or need assistance, you may reach me by e-mail or by phone at 720-874-8487.

Word Puzzle
I am only sending this to my smart friends. I could not figure it out and had to look at the answer. See if you can figure out what these words have in common.
1 Banana
2 Dresser
3 Grammar
4 Potato
5 Revive
6 Uneven
7 Assess
Are you peeking or have you already given up?
Give it another try. Look at each word carefully.

(You'll kick yourself when you discover the answer.)
Answer:    No, it is not that they all have at least 2 double letters. (Thought I had the answer, but I did not go far enough.)

Answer:     In all of the words listed, if you take the first letter, place it at the end of the word, and then spell the word backwards, it will be the same word.
