The President., on his last official day as the club President, read a couple thank you notes.

Will Martinez has King Soopers coupons. The club receives 5% but only 4 people regularly use the service. The card is like a debit card so it’s easy to use.

It was a dark and stormy night (or day) on November 18, 1934, at Porters Hospital, when Phil Grimm decided to come into the world, backwards. The Dr’s at that time weren’t real sure how to deal with this kind of birth so they needed some help. Phil attended Lincoln Elementary, Grant Jr. High and Englewood Sr. High, graduating in 1952. He then took Pre-Dental at DU for one year and participated in Air Force ROTC and dated a WAC. At about this time, he met Marlys (who had Cheerleader legs), a Dental Assistant for Phil’s Uncle and in the late 50’s, they were married. They have been married about 57 years, have 3 kids and 4 grand kids. He was brought into the club by Bill Anderson and Bill Parchen. In 2002/2003, Phil was the club President after going through most of the chairs.

Phil started his working career doing summer jobs like building a house, shoveling up to 20 tons of manure a day and buffing cars. In 1957 he went into the sign business and retired from it in 2001. Now he plays tennis, golf and cards to stay busy.

Program:  Randy Smith introduced Jane Norton who is running for the U.S. Senate. To meet and greet all the members, she handed out the plates at the food table and shook each ones hand while trying to learn a bit about each of us.

Jane Norton.JPG

A third generation, lifelong Coloradan, Jane E. Norton was named the first executive director for the Denver Police Foundation (DPF) February 1, 2007. The DPF supports individual officers and their families in times of crisis and provides equipment, training and technology in support of Denver’s police officers. Norton serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Emergency Preparedness Partnership, whose mission is to strengthen the region’s collective capacity to prevent, respond to, and recover from natural and human-caused disasters through effective public-private collaboration. She is a 2009 graduate of the FBI Citizens’ Academy. In 2007 she participated in a Civic Leader tour hosted by General Gene Renuart, Commander of NORAD/NORTHCOM, touring the nation’s missile defense operations in Colorado, California, Washington, and Alaska. She has participated the West Point Combating Terrorism Center and National Homeland Defense Foundation Symposium training sessions.

Jane started off by telling us much she appreciates the work that service clubs do, all the volunteers’ hours we put in. She mentioned a friend she knows from Finland and told her no one volunteers in Finland because the get taxed for their labor.

Jane says the Federal Government is out of control Her priorities when in the senate would be:
1. Jobs and the economy for Colorado.
2. Stop out of control spending.
3. Keep America free, safe and solvent.

She is Pro life/family, freedom and second and tenth amendments. She would work to repeal Obama Care, balance the budget without raising taxes, cut discretionary spending 20%, no ear marks, stop cap and trade, allow drilling in ANWR and secure the boarders.

“The heart and soul of America does not rest in government – but in each and every one of us. We are the engine that drives the American spirit. And together, we can stand up to Washington to get our state and country back on track.”
