Guests:    Alice Perkins, Jim’s wife: Vicky Oren, Jim’s LSC

FINES:  n/a

Birthdays:   Bob Buckland last week.

Today was President Bill Benton’s last day as President. A standing ovation was given to Bill during chants of “ONE MORE YEAR”.

Next week will be the start of a new dynasty. Maybe we can get Bob Buckland to be the President for 3 years in a row.

Bob Schlageter commended Bob Stein for the great job he did in putting together this year’s Induction Dinner.

Dave Miley is handing over the duties of Toothpick Dispensing to Bill Benton. Dave did an excellent job of filling in for Bill (although he missed a couple weeks).

It appears we will NOT participate in this year’s Western Welcome Week. The main reason was the poor location they assigned us last year. We are asking them if they can give us a better spot or we may not do it this year. Apparently we have not heard back from them.

Here is the list of new Officers for the upcoming year: Go to 2016-2017 Officers list.txt

June 25 was the Leadership workshop conference and Bob Buckland, Bill Benton and Gary Athey attended the all day event.

July 9-10th is the Lodo Field of Dreams event. If you are interested in helping out or just attending, see Bob Buckland.

Aug 21st is the 5th Annual John Elway golf tournament. If interested, see Bill. $125 to play.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Bill Benton (Mr. Tooth Pick) is a Denver native - entering the scene Sunday, October 14, 1928 during the depression, coming in at 7lbs 1 oz. He went through Mitchell Elementary, Cole Jr. High and Graduated from Manual High School, all in Denver – joined the Navy in 1946 and served for 3 years, 2 months as a photographer, and was stationed on Guam for about 21 months and returned to Denver and graduated from the University of Denver in 1954 on the GI Bill. He then went to work for Bear Frame and Axle.

Bill married Betty in 1954 (who passed away in 1995, the day after Christmas). Daughter Cindy is retired from Metro West Fire, and a son is flying a Corp. Jet for the Gates family. Bill also has a granddaughter that is 25 and a snowboarder ski bum. She moved to the mountains to be close to the slopes.

Bill has peddled cars for Burt Chevy since 1964 but the dealer is been sold so every day Bill goes to work, he looks at the sign out front. He claims to have sold over 23,000 cars and still going. He was asked if he held the title of being the longest employee at Burt but he isn’t, he is real close though. Burt is now owned by John Elway

Bill had a ‘significant other’ Gail, whom passed away but then found his current ‘significant other’, Ida May. Bill was brought into Sertoma by Bill Anderson, some 38 plus years ago, back in the days when we met at Wyatt’s cafeteria. He’s been a consistent and faithful doer of good deeds ever since.
