Guests:  Pat McKim introduced his nephew, Ryan Nole from NC.

Fines:   Rick Jacobus fined the Sgt. @ Arms, Tom Fry, for not having Rick’s name in the Pot of Gold. Ed Bezjak fined Tom for not standing when he replied to Jacobus’s fine. (Apparently there are other names missing).

Announcements:   Scott Manley is getting warmed up to take over the Presidents duties, Peter Pauwels was AWOL again. He also informed us of the upcoming Leadership Conference on July 27th and wanted to know who would be attending by sending around a sign up sheet.

Scotts quote of the week: A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one that can find such a man.

Just noticed that July 4th falls on a Thursday SO, will there be a meeting or not? This will be discussed at the next Board Meeting.

Orian was a No-Show so Bob Stein, representing the “Social Committee” gave us some more information on the up-coming “Installation Banquet” to be held at Red Rocks Country Club, June 28th. Drinkies start at 5pm and Eaties start at 6pm. Price per person is $22 (your saving $9 each because the club is picking that up). We would like to have at least 40 sign up, you can bring a guest, your wife etc.

This Saturday and Sunday is the Soap Box Derby and Tim Pollak is trying to get enough helpers to man our Lemonade & Snow Cone Stand on June 8th & 9th, to be held at the Arapahoe Co. Fairgrounds (the old Horse Park). 25690 E Quincy Ave., Aurora, CO (East of E470 on Quincy approx 1/2 mile and then south approximately 1/2 mile.) A signup sheet was passed around. Tim promised a map next week.

Bezjak updated us on the Charity Golf Tournament Booze Globe which is auctioned off. We need more bottles. See Bezjak for further info (you can also bring money and Apple Jack with give us a good deal on the booze). Need more sponsors and silent auction items. Contact Miley for info.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:  Scott Manley was born 1947 in Denver at St. Joseph Hospital. Went to Park Hill elementary and then to East High. He attended UNC in Greeley and eventually earned a Master degree. He got a teaching degree and started teaching in Greeley, then went on to get a masters, later getting a doctorate at UNC in administration and counseling.

Scott worked at Craig Hospital for 36 years and met his wife, Cathy, there. They have two children, a son and a daughter and two grandkids now. Scott and Cathy are both retired. His son is carrying on the Manley tradition by working at Craig and his daughter is a nurse at Rose. Scott works with wood and tinkers with old cars. No military service, his draft number was 328 but he also had bad legs. The river was the Platte River. Dean Hiss brought him into the club. Scott used to work with Sertoma at Craig. Sertoma bought Craig the first van in the 1970’s.

Program:   Dave Miley introduced Randy Penn, the Mayor of Englewood. Randy would like to come at least once a year to give us an update of what’s happening in Englewood.

Randy Penn 2013.JPG

Randy enjoys coming to our group, one reason is he knows several of the members. (let’s sign him up)

He came to talk about 3 items: The current development in the city of Englewood, the new zoning and activities around the Light Rail System and last but not least is the issue of recreational marijuana.

Randy says one of the great things about being the mayor is you get to see things grow. Back in 2008, the city had $12 million in permits & fees, in 2010 there was $24 million, in 2012 the was $46 million and for 2013 they are on track for $250 million in permits and fees. Growth brings happiness but it also brings hast. One reason for such a large increase this year is all the apartments being built, also Craig Hospital has a large build going on.

Randy went into great detail on the issues so the best thing to do is listen to his audio. Listen to Randy Penn.mp3
