Ken said the club received a letter thanking us for our help with the A-1 / Craig Raffle and how memorable the dinner was that several members attended, there were over 1,300 attendees there, and over $1,000,000 dollars was raised which includes our $6,600+ effort.

Get those sponsors lined up for the Golf Tournament coming up in a few weeks. See Miley for any details. With the help from Bill Benton, John Elway dealership will provide a $10,000 Hole-In-One.

Tim thanked all those that showed up to help with our Lemonade Stand at the 6th Annual Sertoma Soapbox Derby. We sold $298 with of goods but the best part was the discount that kings Soopers gave us plus a grocery card.

Along with that, Rick Campbell said our driver, Aaron Grumet and his father may attend a lunch in the near future. Aaron was eliminated after the second round but had fun on his first year of racing.

Inauguration Dinner is Friday, June 8th at Red Rocks CC with cocktails at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. Price (after club subsidy) is $22/person and you can pay at the door, make check payable to Arapahoe Sertoma.

Next week we should have tickets on the upcoming Pancake Breakfast to be held on July 21st ??.

Dick Enslow did exactly what he said he was going to do….not show up for lunch today. Instead, he handed off his duties to Ed Bezjak to ask for volunteers to bring some hard liquor to the Charity Golf Tournament Monday July 16th. Check with Ed or Dick on exact details.

Jim Rees announced that he is out of the new discount cards but can get more if you need one. The club receives 5%

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Glenn Combellick was born in Billings, MT on May 8th, 1924. He lived, attended school and fished there until about the age of 13. While there, he got into playing marbles at the age of 12 and won the City Tournament. He also won the next year and he says those were his “athletic years”, 1936 and 1937, when he was in junior high school. Glenn played marbles in the dirt lot next to his house so much he had dirt embedded in his hand. He says he was a “good” kid and didn’t get caught doing anything bad.

Glenn graduated from high school in 1941 and was in the Navy from Dec. 3rd, 1942 until Sep 29th, 1945. He stayed in the States the whole time, being trained. Then he came to Denver and graduated at DU in 1948, followed by passing his CPA exam and into private practice in Englewood for 27 years until he retired in 1976 at 52 years old. Married Vernie Aug 29, 1948 and has 4 kids, 8 grandkids and 1 great grandchild and another on the way.

Glenn has been a member since 1955, which makes 54 years (2nd active behind Dr. Kelsall) and brought into the club by the charter President. Thanks for being part of the club, Glenn. Listen to GlennCombellick.mp3

Program:  Peter Pauwels introduced Dan Reid from Support a Soldier.

'Support-A-Soldier' Clearinghouse, Inc ("SaS") is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed and managed by family and friends of soldiers, who contribute their time, energy and ideas to help raise money to buy needed gear and equipment for the deployed soldiers who contact us. We get requests for items that our military men and women are purchasing out of their own pockets. Indeed, our military provides for our soldiers, but as you can imagine, there are certain items and specific requests for kit or mission specific gear that a soldier realizes will make his deployment more comfortable, perhaps a bit easier and on occasion, safer.

Our goals here at 'SaS' are quite simple and two-fold.
Primary Mission~ To Provide US Military Men And Woman With Non-Lethal Ancillary Equipment And Other Necessities, Thereby Improving Their Safety, Readiness, Comfort And/Or Efficiency In Areas Of Combat Operations.

Secondary Mission~ To Provide The American Public With A Means To Directly Support The Military That Serves Them And Establish A Mutually Beneficial Relationship That Promotes A Positive Understanding Between Soldier And Citizen.

This is a forum that is designed to connect YOU, the American citizen, to those who defend you and the things you hold dear.       Listen to Dan reid.mp3   Presentation.pdf
