The First Annual Brewmasters Classic Golf Tournament is over….with a big hand to Ken Kelley for all his efforts. Only 36 players participated but we hope to do better next year if we do it again. After our Program, Ken showed off his new found talent as an Auctioneer and auctioned several items with proceeds going to Sight and Sound.
At the Board meeting, it was mentioned that any event we get into like this one, be sure there is plenty of advertising AT THE LOCATION OF THE EVENT. Apparently several members of the course said they would have played had they knew about it. Another negative was the cost of $200.

Will Martinez has King Soopers coupons. The club receives 5% but only 4 people regularly use the service. The card is like a debit card so it’s easy to use.

The $4 Trivia question was answered correctly by Doug Harder

We had a little trouble finding a driver so we are not involved in the Soap Box Derby. Maybe next year. Nice story about the Derby   Click here for story of the Soap Box Derby from the Denver Post:

Joe (just say Sioux) Dowdey scared us all by bringing out a large book and starting to read from it but had second thoughts. Joe was born in Hawarden, Iowa. Hawarden is North of Sioux City, South of Sioux Falls, West of Sioux Center, and East of the Big Sioux River. Joe is married to Carol, (not Sioux) who he met at Sioux College and has a son Jim, and a daughter Jessica. They moved to Colorado in 1981. Joe and Carol have three grand kids. Joe said that while he was in college, the school had the worst football teams but now they are doing pretty well. Joe said all his schools are still standing.

Joe was in the Scouts as a young man but had no military service. His father was a Scout leader as Joe was. Not much else to do in Sioux City so most of the boys join the Scouts.

Joe is a financial advisor, having gone into business for him self over 3 years ago, Joe Dowdey Financial Strategies (303) 933-2885 . Joe grew up in a family owned furniture business atmosphere dating back to his grandfather who made their own furniture. When Joe failed to grasp the difference between a crosscut and a rip saw, the lineage stopped and the business failed.

Joe was brought into the club by John Pifer and has held virtually every office in the club and chaired numerous committees.       Listen to JoeDowdey.mp3

Program:   Randy Smith introduced Mitch Shapiro from the Foundation for Sight and Sound. Mitch was accompanied by his Seeing Eye dog, Visa and his girl friend Donna. Mitch gave a great tribute to all that helped with the golf tournament and especially Ken Kelley.

Our Mission:
The Foundation for Sight & Sound is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by various visual and/or auditory challenges.

As a registered 501C3 not-for-profit organization, we fund our programs through limited private and public grants. In order to qualify for these grants, we need to provide direct services (and/or) engage in research that meets the specific mission of our organization. In addition, The FSS helps fill the economic gaps of other organizations who also share our vision.
All grants given to the FSS are channeled only to specific projects and not to an organization's general fund.
We are dedicated to creating a world where people with vision and/or hearing challenges can realize their full potential and live their lives with unlimited possibilities. Why should someone who is deprived of their hearing or sight also be deprived of their independence and quality of life?
It’s all about possibilities … and potential.
