Fines:  Table one for hosting Larry and Dick as guests. Randy fined all Arapahoe member at table One a whole 30 cents; Jim Perkins got off easy with only a 25cent fine for his wife being here. (it’s normally a buck); The President (yes, he showed up) was admonished for not affixing his signature to the Past President Awards that were handed out. Do to the sequestration, no frames were used.

Announcements:  Peter Pauwels started off by thanking Scott Manley for the fine job he did filling in for Peter while he was ill.

Finally, some Past President Awards are being handed out to Ken Kelley, Jim Perkins, Jim Rees and John Vierthaler.  Today they only received a paper award, we are still waiting on receiving a couple pins that are on order from International, they sent the wrong thing, twice.   Ken was not available to receive his at this time.

Peter Pauwels informed us that this year’s Christmas Party Committee is already working on the arrangements. Never to early to get started.

Dick Enslow reminded the club that there will be a short meeting after the regular lunch meeting to discuss the upcoming Charity Golf Tournament for this year. All are welcome to attend. The Tournament is July 15th.

Dave Miley collects church bulletins and today, he read one of the more interesting ones. The Bulletin read in part: “On the Wednesday Night Prayer meeting, there would be a Missionary from South Africa by the name of Bertha Belch so everyone come and hear Bertha Belch all the way from Africa.

Doug Harder announced there will be a Past Presidents meeting (not the departed kind) April 2nd which is a Tuesday, at 7pm; Locations is Christ Lutheran Church.

Don Smith wanted to know who all receives E-mail from International (not to many) So Don will continue to forward them when he receives them. Today he received one from Kay Telford who is running for Director-at-Large for Sertoma Inc.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Dick Enslow was born Jan 23, 1942 in Aurora, Ill., near the Fox River. He went to school in the Aurora area and received a BS in Industrial Engineering. He went to work for Allis Chalmers. He came to Denver in 1973 for a job offer and was amazed at the weather so he moved here. He went to work for Materials Handling, then went into the reverse mortgage business several years ago but after being told they were going to train him at his expense, he retired.

Dick has been married to Carol for 47 years (for a while there, we thought Carol was the SOD). She did high school teaching, and then computer sales then went to work for a travel company that got bought out by Delta. They had great benefits. She last did student information systems for the Jeffco school district until she retired in April a couple years ago.
Dick has two kids. His daughter, Kedra, who has given Dick his first grandchild. Son Brad is a couple years younger then his sister and was married recently. He plays two man sand volleyball “professionally” (about $100 a year).

Dick was drafted when he was 21 but since he had dislocated his shoulder in high school several times he was rejected at the physical, they never contacted him.
Dick has a gift from a college fraternity brother in a hunting accident. A Pheasant flew up between the 2 of them and Dick got most of the shot which is still there. The shot is lead so it doesn't get picked up by the airport x-ray machines but his 2 knee replacements do.
Dick is going to be our Sponsorship/Finance Chairman again for the new fiscal year. He was brought into the club by the honorable Bill Parchen and was President with a gold coat and gone through most chairs.

Program:  Carl Duncan introduced Kathleen Foley, who along with her father, came to tell us about her 2 year commitment to the Peace Corp and was stationed in Sierra Leone on the western coast of Africa. During her presentation her father operated the computer and projector, showing many fine photos of her time there.

Kat is from Colorado but went to school in upstate NY and received a degree in Engineering. She had known about the Peace Corp before so she submitted her application and was selected to be a member. After your training, you are given your assignment; you don’t really have a choice in where you will be going. Although she didn’t mention it today, her intention now is to move to Republic of Congo to serve as a teacher with an organization called Mercy Ships and is soliciting donations to cover her cost. Listen to Kat describe here time in Sierra Leone and explain the photos she showed: KatFoley.mp3
