Doug Harder had is Past Presidents meeting after today’s lunch. They are looking to fill the Officer positions for the next year and may have to have some members stay on the job they hold now or take another position OR you may be asked to do a job you just did a couple years ago. Since our membership is going down, we need all the help we can get so if you are just sitting there enjoying yourself, step up and help out.

Next week right after lunch they will hold a Nomination selection and vote.

Bob Buckland and maybe Scott Manley will be attending a meeting April 1st to see what can be done with the money raised in the past “Walk’s” that was held a couple years ago and the money that is sitting in the bank that hasn’t been donated yet. We have a couple ideas and since we helped raise about 75% of the money, we might have a say in how that money is donated.

K-1 Racing was again a great success but could have had more participation. Anyone you talk to that has driven one of the cars really enjoys it. This years winners are:
1st=Jordan Dody;    2nd-Julie Pacheco;   3rd=Cindy Vierthaler;   4th=Matthew Pacheco &   5th=Pat McKim.

Dave also mentioned that the Englewood Chamber is having a GALA event March 28th at the Elks club, 6-10pm and $25/person or you can sponsor a table. See Dave for more details.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.  A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   We finally cornered Jack Marshall to be the SOD (that will teach him to show up to lunch). Jack has been busy the last few months with the passing of his father and other family stuff so we are glad to get him here when we can.

Jack Marshall 2017.jpg

Jack Marshall told us about his life which started out April 17, 1957, 2 days before the tax deadline for his dad. Born in Denver, lived in Virginia and Maryland because dad was in Army Air Corp, and returned to Littleton in 68 and graduated from Littleton High. In Dec. 6, 1975, he joined the Air Force as a weapons specialist on a bomber and served in England. He mentioned it was his guys that sent the bombs over to Libya that were used on Muammar Gaddafi’s Palace. He served 4 years. When he returned to the state, he got off the plane in Myrtle Beach, SC. and the heat and humidity about knocked him over.

Jack was discharged in Dec. 7, 1979 as a Sergeant, and tried being an electrician but got zapped so many times, he decided to change career paths. He went to A.C.C. for Architectural Technology and ended up with a scholarship to a school in Kansas but bought a house here and started attending CU but didn't graduate. He learned enough from his dad to help him pass the tests. He did teach Architectural Technology at A.C.C.

Jack met his wife, Marcia, who was from NE and they were married in Jan of 1987. It was a short courtship and at least 9 months after they were married, his daughter was born in Oct. (something about being snowed in was mentioned). They also have 2 boys and several G-kids.

Jack's father and others, such as Bill Parchen, brought him into the club. He figured after 10 years in Kiwanis and 9 of those years in a position of office and 4 of those as the President, Sertoma wouldn't be bad but it didn't take long before he started through the chairs and made it to the top.

Jack said he once sat on LBJ’s bed at the White House and played with LBJ’s dog. He also mentioned he took the Enslow School of Speed Reading and Speaking.        Listen to Jack Marshall.mp3

Program: Doug Harder introduced his Son-in-Law Joel White who is a Lieutenant with the Arapahoe Co. Sherriff’s Office and a Homicide Detective. Joel has been with us a couple times in the past and now that he is no longer doing undercover work, he is able to return and tell us more stories about crime and drugs and other neat stuff.

Joel White 2017.jpg

Joel says Denver and some surrounding areas of Colorado are getting to be some pretty bad places and it’s mostly due to drugs and the cartels selling drugs and the homicides that go along with them..
