The Freedom Week lunch went well with about 20 members in attendance.

Dave Miley mentioned a fund raising event at the Littleton Town Hall Arts Center April 1st. $50ea with a meal. The play is Wonderettess and you can see Dave for more info.

Pat McKim – The poker party will be held April 23rd and should be bigger and better with a new venue and without a partner, that way we keep all the profits. Price will be $65 again and Pat will have tickets maybe in a couple weeks. The event will take place possibly at the Elks club. More details later but start rounding up prospective players. Beer and Wine – cash bar – with a light appetizer type meal included.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:  Orian Hunter told a little story about how he met his wife Ellen. He didn't have time for the rest of his bio so here it is. Orian was born in Denver, not to far from the South Platte River but he didn’t mention the date. He went to schools all over the place, including Grad School in Wisconsin. He was a teacher in a couple states. .

Several years ago, Orian was teaching in Sterling and at Kingsburg but decided he was paying to much in taxes and decided to retire. Orian has a Principals License from the U. of Phoenix. He wanted to work for them so he sent his resume in and was hired, along with 75 other applicants. After all the training and classes, I think he said he did not get the job. He does teach for them in the evenings.

He is a grandpa with 3 grandsons and he found out one of them is like him. He is still married to Ellen after 38 years. Orian’s military consisted of 2 years of Army ROTC. (He wasn’t even sure if it was Army, what do they teach people now a days?). He didn’t seem too disappointed when they asked him to hang up his uniform.

Orian was a President in 2001-2002 and claims two contributions to the club. 1) The Western Welcome Lemonade stand and 2) improving the speech pattern of a certain club member huh….huh…(well, that one didn’t pan out). The guy that brought him into the club is long gone from the club (I didn’t catch his name). Listen to Orian Hunter.mp3

Program:  Randy Smith introduced HARLAN ABRAHAMS. Harlan is a writer, lawyer and former law professor specializing in Constitutional Law, corporate law and public policy.

He is the author of NEVEAH and the ANGEL of DEATH (2013), which tells the true story of the tragic killing in 2007 of three-year-old Neveah Gallegos and the Denver community's remarkable efforts to bring her killer to justice. Exclusive interviews with police, prosecutors, family, friends, witnesses and jurors give the reader an intimate and authentic perspective. You can buy the book at all Tattered Cover bookstores or online by clicking on the Tattered Cover button to the left.

ABRAHAMS' first book, ON THE LIST: Fixing America's Failing Organ Transplant System (Rodale 2009), was a bestseller. It combines nonfiction narrative with a deep policy analysis about what can be done to eliminate the organ waiting lists. ABRAHAMS is also the principal writer and coauthor of RAÚL CASTRO and the NEW CUBA: A Close-up View of Change (McFarland 2011). This book includes first-hand reporting from ABRAHAMS’ many trips to Cuba and his analysis of the changes sweeping the island since Fidel's “little brother” took the reins of power.

In 2013 the feature film HAVANA 57--"from the novels of Harlan Abrahams" --was released. It is the first major English language production shot entirely on location in Cuba in 5 decades. To celebrate its release, ABRAHAMS has published HAVANA 58--"from the series that inspired the film"--as an e-book on Amazon.com.

ABRAHAMS holds law degrees from both the University of Nebraska and Harvard Law School. He has taught at five law schools, earned tenure, and served as a partner at two national law firms. He lives in Denver, Colorado. His email address is: HarlanAbrahams@aol.com. (copied from: http://harlanabrahams.com/ )         Listen to Harlan Abrahams.mp3
