THIS WEEK IN REVIEW .... May 23, 2013
This weeks Reporter- Don Smith

Guests:   Rev. Robinson introduced Chaplin, retired Col. Paul Hewe from Georgetown, TX.

Fines:   To Rev. Robinson by Tom Fry, just for the Halibut. He was also fined for a baseball bet he lost to Paul and drags Paul to lunch so he doesn’t have to pay.

Announcements:  Peter Pauwels welcomed the members to their weekly meeting and also extended welcomes to our guests in attendance. He also had a trivia question that Dick Laskey guessed correctly: What was the percentage of citizens from Poland that died during WWII and the answer is: 17%, the most of any country.

Mr. Hunter (aka The King), says we have a chance to see a Rockies game from one of the suite’s at Coors Field if we get at least 30 dudes/dudets (or anyone with a pulse). It will be in August, either the 11th or the 14rd. The cost will be somewhere between $10 and $250 and it will be right in-between. The King also tried to take the floor by giving us too much information that Bob Stein was to share with us about the Installation Banquet. When “The King” was done, Dave Miley asked “What did the King just say?” and no one could give him an answer.

Bob Stein did get a chance to report about our annual Installation Banquet, it is set for June 28th at Red Rocks CC. Cocktails at 5:00 and dinner at 6:00.

Dick Enslow ran into Kirk Hon who is working at Raccoon Creek GC and Kirk told Dick to say hi to us all. Also, next week directly after our lunch, there will be a meeting for the upcoming Golf Tournament. All are invited to attend.

Tim Pollak is trying to get enough helpers to man our Lemonade & Snow Cone Stand at this years Soap Box Derby on June 8th & 9th, to be held at the Arapahoe Co. Fairgrounds (the old Horse Park). A signup sheet was passed around.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:  Dick Laskey was born 8-15-48 in Detroit Michigan, he says he enjoyed the area as a young lad but not now, it’s just not the same. His grandfather was a dentist who worked on notables such as Race Beamer of early radio fame and baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb.

His high school is closed and his rivers were the Detroit & Rouge rivers. Dick joined Sertoma in 1980 and has served in many of the club offices including President (Gold Coat) in 1986, Treasurer, etc. plus the highly regarded position of Bingo Captain.

Dick has been married to Linda since 1970 (that’s 41 years) and they have a daughter and a son plus two grandkids. He earned an accounting degree at Kalamazoo U. and moved to Colorado in 1973 when he heard CPA’s were needed in the Denver area. He came out to visit a collage friend and got a job. Dick had no military. Listen to DickLaskey.mp3    Dick was a little embarased by the fact that he forgot his wallet at home and didn't have the $5 that Mike Ballew won.

Dick had a copy of his Great Grandad's Honorable Discharge paper from the Navy, dated 1898.

Program:  Randy Smith introduced Dr. Lixin Zhang, Founder of Lixin Acupuncture Clinics.
Formerly the chief doctor of the Acupuncture Department at Bejing's acclaimed Red Cross Hospital, Dr. Zhang has treated thousands of people with traditional therapies.

After graduating at the top of his class at Heilongjiang medical school, he joined the Red Cross Hospital's one thousand doctor staff and served as a resident acupuncture doctor.

In 1992 Dr. Zhang became the chief doctor of the acupuncture department and, in addition to his normal patient load, he directed the treatment of hundreds of other hospital patients each day.

Through the 1990's a number of Dr. Zhang's medical research studies were published and in 1993 he was appointed national consultant to the Chinese Family Doctors Association.
