Harvey Le Cato, Governor from Colorado Springs and member of the Austin Bluff’s club, stopped by to give the club a banner that listed Arapahoe as the most numerous winner of the Greater Rocky Mountain Region Club Excellence Award from 1963 to 2003. We won a total of 12 times. The Rocky Mountain Region has been replaced by the Mountain West Region. Harvey Le Cato presenting banner video:

A business meeting was held today to discuss the future of the club. The main issue of going co-ed was tabled.

Jack Thompson informed the club that he has a way for anyone wanting to play golf at the AF Academy on June 30th to let him know. You have to fill out a form first so if you want to play, let Jack know. $115 includes lunch.

Dave Miley brought up the up-coming Chamber Golf outing in June. More info to follow. Last year we had to worst 4-some and they won a special award (golf lessons).

Mike Magee mentioned the upcoming 9 HealthFair. $35 for a bunch of tests.

Scott passed around a sign-up sheet to solicit help with the A-1 Scuba Raffle to be held May 20 & 21. He can use some help so see if you can lend a hand on those dates. Here is the info on that event: A-1 Scuba info.jpg This year it is twofold, you can either win a trip for two to Cozumel and this benefits Craig Hospitals Therapeutic Recreation Department or a trip for two to the Philippines and this benefits American Veterans Experience Scuba Project.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Bill Benton (Mr. Tooth Pick) is a Denver native - entering the scene Sunday, October 14, 1928 during the depression, coming in at 7lbs 1 oz. He went through Mitchell Elementary, Cole Jr. High and Graduated from Manual High School, all in Denver – joined the Navy in 1946 and served for 3 years, 2 months as a photographer, and was stationed on Guam for about 21 months and returned to Denver and graduated from the University of Denver in 1954 on the GI Bill. He then went to work for Bear Frame and Axle.

Bill married Betty in 1954 (who passed away in 1995, the day after Christmas). Daughter Cindy is retired from Metro West Fire, and a son is flying a Corp. Jet for the Gates family. Bill also has a granddaughter that is 26 and a snowboarder ski bum. She moved to the mountains to be close to the slopes.

Bill has peddled cars for Burt Chevy since 1964 but the dealer is been sold so every day Bill goes to work, he looks at the sign out front. He claims to have sold over 23,000 cars and still going. He was asked if he held the title of being the longest employee at Burt but he isn’t, he is real close though. Burt is now owned by John Elway

Bill had a ‘significant other’ Gail, whom passed away but then found his current ‘significant other’, Ida May. Bill was brought into Sertoma by Bill Anderson, some 38 plus years ago, back in the days when we met at Wyatt’s cafeteria. He’s been a consistent and faithful doer of good deeds ever since.
