A sign-up sheet was passed around for the upcoming Christmas/Holiday at the Elks club and the date is Tuesday, Dec. 20th. For now it looks like it will start at 5:30 cocktails & 6:30 dinner followed by a DJ playing all your favorites and dancing. There will be a gathering of toys (un-wrapped) to be donated to Tennyson Center for Children (age group of about 8 to 12 years old). We might have the Center come and tell us about their organization if it can be arranged. Toy value something like $10 to $15 and we hope to have more information soon on all the plans. Dinner for now looks like Chicken or Beef and maybe a Vegie plate, all served by the Ladies of the Elks Club. Cost looks like $20 per person. All Friends, Family and Relatives are invited; we would like to see maybe 80 to 100 in attendance. The theme of this years party is……FUN.

There will NOT be a regular lunch that week, Dec. 22nd.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Rick Jacobus ( aka Night Owl), born 23 July, 1936 in Grand Rapids, Michigan (same hospital as President Ford but 2 years later) but grew up in Ohio on an Army base until he was a junior in high school at which point the family moved to CO when in 1953 and graduated from Sheridan High in 1954. He worked for Public Service about 3 years when a co-worker advised him to go to college. A grad of UNC, Greeley with a degree in Distributive Education, Rick gave up teaching school (elementary phs ed) after one year but went on to a successful 35 year career in the insurance field.

Rick lives with his wife Bonnie, they were married in June of 1962. They have a son, Rod, 49, who lives in LA, and a daughter Jill, 47, who’s husband and kids live in this area, which gives Rick a chance to spoil the 2 grandkids twice a week.

Rick missed joining the Navy by one day, he was going to sign up but a letter from the Army, forwarded from Harder which stated Rick had received his 2S-deferment into the Army. That was close. He was in the NAVY Reserve and Air Force ROTC.

A member of Arapahoe since 24 July, 1974, Rick has done it all including President (79-80), Secretary, Governor, District Governor in 1982-83 and more. He mentioned how he was instrument in getting a club to shut down. He was recruited into the club by who else, Doug Harder, who was also Rick’s Best Man. He did not win a Gold Coat, thanks to Harder. Program:  Bob Buckland recently made a trip to Washington DC with Honor Flight. Bob talked some about the trip and what they saw and also had some photos to share.

Bob Buckland 2016

Our Mission: To transport America’s Veterans to Washington, DC to visit those memorials dedicated to honor the service and sacrifices of themselves and their friends.

Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.

Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. Our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.      Listen to Bob talk about his trip.
