news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Rick Campbell was born in Geneva, Illinois in 1953. Grew up in Illinois, went to High School at Glenbard West at Hilltop, it is still standing. Served in the military for 2 weeks, he was number 5 in the draft. Two weeks prior to reporting for basic, Nixon called off the draft but he did get inducted into the Army. Rick went on to College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Il. Started as an electrical engineer, but did not like the number crunching as much as fixing cars.

Rick went to college for a year. He came out to Colorado on a ski vacation and enjoyed walking around in a tee shirt in the middle of winter (1973) and decided to come out and stay permanently. He had met Renee when he was in High School, they started dating during college and she came along when Rick moved west in 1974. They have been happily married for 37 years and they have 3 girls. The eldest of his daughters is a teacher at Ft. Logan Elementary. The middle child is a nurse at Porter. The youngest is a homemaker due to the recently arrival of twins. Rick and Renee now have 7 grand kids. One of the grand kids was born on 5-5-05.

Rick runs an auto collision repair service (Auto Body & Frame Clinic of Colorado) which he opened in 1979 and it’s close to the Elks' club (which is convenient because of the poor driving abilities of the club). His dad was in the auto body parts business. He gave Rick a beat up car and told him by the time you get it all fixed up, you will be old enough to drive it. Dr. Tim brought Rick into the club and he has held several chairs including President & Chairman of the Board. Listen to Rick Campbell.mp3

Program:  Mike Magee introduced his daughter Kim who came today to tell us about Subliminal Scenting – How your environment is affecting your mood. Kim works for Prolitec and from it sounds like, she travels all over selling the idea of Aromatherapy (Utilizing specific fragrance formulations and scents that can energize the senses, evoke comforting memories, reduce stress, encourage relaxation, etc.). She helps determine what type of scent, the location of the box that dispenses the scent and how scent to use.

How a place smells is the most recalled feature of a past experience. We remember the smell of something many years longer than we remember sounds, visuals or textures. "Scent creates more emotionally charged memory traces than those that are evoked by verbal, visual, auditory or tactile cues."

Choosing the appropriate scent for the environment is key: "Scent-product congruency is of importance, even if the scent does not originate from the product." In an observational study of bookstore customers shopping in a chocolate-scented environment, the customers were more likely to buy cookbooks, drink books, romance novels, and romantic literature rather than history books or detective novels.
