Quote:  Larry the Cable Guy “Change is inevitable except from vending machines”

Guests:   n/a

Fines:   25¢ to Jacobus for wandering thoughts.

Bingo:  83 players and a deposit of $6,232.75      It was mentioned at the Board meeting that there are playback scammers out there. We need to double check the number of playbacks the player says they get.

Announcements:    Please let Don Smith know when you attend another clubs meeting, district or regional convention or any other events that qualifies for attendance so I can get it listed on our attendance log.

Norm says you only have a couple days left to order Poinsettias. Call him

Gus Szala and Mike Magee are stepping up to head the Social Committee. Gus gave some ideas for a location to have our Xmas party at.

Tim announced that the Promotions club met, the Wine tasting event grossed $50,000. Out club’s cut is $379. One plus for all the clubs was the Sertoma name recognition through the media.

The club has been having the Annual Raffle sine 1982, now we have to decide if we want to keep it going. The problem: not enough ticket sales. SO, we will pass a sign-up sheet around to see how many of the members will buy a ticket for them self before we decide to go ahead with another raffle. We would also need someone to step up and take charge of the event.

The Soap Box Derby organizers have a modification to all the cars this year. They all will need an air foil. Rick Campbell will take care that and he has agreed to be the club’s coordinator.

Will Martinez has King Soopers coupons.

SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Don Nelson, born in 1924 and grew up on a farm in N.W. Iowa. He went all 12 years to the same school and it is still standing and being used as a school. The family did not have a tractor, they had to use horses, and they also didn’t have electricity until he was in high school when the REA came through and delivered power to all the farms. Don said that was one of the best things to happen for rural America.

He was working in a VA hospital where he met his wife Jackie. They have been married for 60 years. They moved to Colorado shortly after they were married. Don then enrolled in veterinary school and practiced until he sold his practice in 1983 to another Nelson. He has been retired ever since.

He has three kids. His son is a colonial in the Air Force and was our speaker only a few months back. One daughter is retired and the other is a microbiologist. He has six grandkids.

He has served in the marines and was stationed on the USS Colorado during WWII. The ship had 16” guns. They were not so bad if they were firing forward but if they fired to the side it would move the entire ship two feet sideways. Needless to say, it made it hard to sleep.

He went to school on the GI Bill. He feels that the GI Bill is one of the best things that the country did for veterans because it allowed a much lower pool of people to attend college. He went to what is now CSU but then was Colorado A&M. In his class over 900 applied and they accepted 67.

Steve Bolyard brought him into the club.
