The club voted to have a Pancake feed sometime in Novermeber. We also decided to split the proceeds with Interfaith Taskforce at 50/50 since it looks like we will be selling the majority of the tickets. 100 tickets is the minimum at $10 each.

Bessie’s Hope as requested another donation but since our Sponsorship funds are getting a little low, it doesn’t look like we will be able to donate this time. It was sugested the Foundation might want to look into this if they need to get rid of some extra cash.

Tim needs your “volunteer hours”, these would be for the quarter and any hours with any organization you “volunteer” at. These are reported to International.
Tim has the new Directories to hand out, see him if you need one.

Don Nelson had about 8 guests from the club visit him last week to wish him a happy 90th. Jeannie also announced there will be an open house at Don’s place on Oct 18th from 3 to 5pm.

Bob Gallagher is recovering, he is busy with rehab during the day so an evening visit or call may be best…..Maybe should call first, check with Bill on that.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:   Bob “Bucky” Buckland: Born June of 1932 in Hartford, CT Hospital, 1-1/2 miles from the CT River. He was the 5th of 6 kids. Bob graduated from Hall High in W. Hartford and the school is still standing. He attended undergraduate school at the Univ. of CT 1950-1956 interrupted by 2 years in the U.S. Navy (51-53). Bob mentioned a time he was stationed in Alaska and on a simulated invasion drill, WE LOST. Thanks Bob.

Bob was a Group Rep for Prudential Insurance Co. 1956-1958. On 11/30/57 Bob married Betty and they have three children, Mac, Toddie & Freddie, all of them married now. Bob and Betty have 7 grand children and 8 GG-grandkids. Betty was a nurse. Recently, Bob reached his 82th birthday and is the only living child of his late parents, survived Prostate Cancer and celebrated the birth of another great grandson. On Feb. 23, one of his granddaughters was married in Cabo San Lucas to a wide receiver for the K.C. Chiefs and the family had lots of fun for 3 weeks.

Bob left Prudential and went to the Univ. of Conn. School of Law 1958-61 and was admitted to the Conn. Bar July 1961. He was an Atty. for Conn. Mutual Live from 1961 to 1964. Bob and Betty then moved to Denver in 1964 to go into sale for Conn. Mutual. He is still associated with its successor, Mass. Mutual but is “partly retired” now.

Dick Sorensen brought Bob into the Lodo Club but since they didn't have many members in the club, Bob liked the size of the Arapahoe Club and moved over to it.    Listen to Bob Buckland.mp3

Program:   Randy Smith introduced Matt Crane – Arapahoe Co. Clerk & Recorder. Matt was our program in September 2013, just before the elections then and is here today to bring us up to date on whats new with the way Arapahoe Co. handles elections and the mail ballot issues. Matt is up for re-election and you can view more about him at:

Matt Crane was appointed Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder to fill a vacancy created when the previous Clerk and Recorder, Nancy A. Doty was elected District 1 County Commissioner. He is serving a term that expires Jan. 15, 2015.

Matt is one of a select group of election administrators in Colorado with both state and county elections experience. He has worked for the Colorado Department of State, the City and County of Denver and Arapahoe County. Matt also was invited to participate in identifying national election best practices with the Election Assistance Commission in Washington, D.C. In August 2013, he received national certification as a Certified Elections/Registration Administrator from the Election Center (National Association of Election Officials). In January 2014, Matt was elected by fellow County Clerks from across the state as Vice President of the Colorado County Clerk’s Association. (copied from Matt’s web page) Listen to Matt Crane.mp3
