Guests:    Alice Perkins, Jim’s wife: Rev. Robinson introduced Vicky Oren, his LSC: Clarke Bennett was introduced as having his application submitted for membership (first publication) and a check.

FINES:  Don Smith for his shorts being too tight…..Doug thought I was singing off key.

Birthdays:   The President didn’t want to miss anyone so he read off a list of the members with birthdays around this time: Duncan, Elsey, Randy, Athey, Harder, Bezjak, Pollak & Schillo.

Announcements:   President Buckland gave us advanced notice that he will not be present at the next two lunches. He was selected to the Rocky Mountain Honor Flight for Korean vets and will even go to Washington DC to tour some of the sights there.
Manley and Stein are filling in so let’s be nice to them…..or not.

Last week’s Bronco pool winners: Alice (or is it Jim), Manley² & Stein.

At the Board Meeting today, we asked for ideas for this year’s Christmas Party. Do we want an adult only party, a party with adults & kids? How about holding it at the Elks club? Do we want a $10 gift exchange???? What about a band or DJ, what type of music (one idea was 40’s music). We need ideas of what YOU want so write down some ideas and give them to the President.

We want to know how many in the club would be interested in taking the Royal Gorge Train or the George Town Loop for a ride as a club function. Think about it as more discussion to follow.

One last pitch for the upcoming Golf For Fun event hosted by Golf 4 The Disabled on Sep 16th, a Friday at Broken Tee starting at 8am.    A sign-up sheet was passed around and we have one team but a second team could play free if enough signed up.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Dick Enslow was born Jan 23, 1942 in Aurora, Ill., near the Fox River. He went to school in the Aurora area and received a BS in Industrial Engineering. He went to work for Allis Chalmers. He came to Denver in 1973 for a job offer and was amazed at the weather so he moved here. He went to work for Materials Handling, then went into the reverse mortgage business several years ago but after being told they were going to train him at his expense, he retired.

Dick has been married to Carol for 48 years. She did high school teaching, and then computer sales then went to work for a travel company that got bought out by Delta. They had great benefits. She last did student information systems for the Jeffco school district until she retired in April a couple years ago.

Dick has two kids. His daughter, Kedra, who has given Dick his first grandchild. Son Brad is a couple years younger than his sister and was married recently and plays two man sand volleyball “professionally” (about $100 a year).

Dick was drafted when he was 21 but since he had dislocated his shoulder in high school several times he was rejected at the physical, they never contacted him.
Dick has a gift from a college fraternity brother in a hunting accident. A Pheasant flew up between the 2 of them and Dick got most of the shot which is still there. The shot is lead so it doesn't get picked up by the airport x-ray machines but his 2 knee replacements do.

Dick is going to be our Sponsorship/Finance Chairman again for the new fiscal year. He was brought into the club by the honorable Bill Parchen and was President with a gold coat and gone through most chairs. Dick is one of the more active members, always stepping up to work behind the scene on many fund raising events, such as the golf tournaments and in the past, Bingo. Listen to Dick Enslow.mp3

Program:  Randy Smith introduced Dr. Jon Kedrowski- Author of 2 books and he has summited Mt. Everest.

Jonathan James Kedrowski (born May 12, 1979) is an author, speaker, ski-mountaineer and geographer. Kedrowski is best known for his many mountaineering accomplishments and ski descents: most notably, in 2011, when he became the first person to summit, camp and spend the night on top of all Colorado's 55 Fourteener's. In May 2012, Kedrowski successfully climbed Mount Everest while witnessing and surviving the worst tragedy on Everest since the 1996 disaster.

On April 25th, 2015, Jon was in Mount Everest Basecamp when a 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake struck Nepal around Noon that day. An impressively large Avalanche of Seracs and Compressed Air fell from the slopes of nearby Pumori Peak and collided with the Basecamp, destroying everything in its path and killing 19 people, while injuring nearly 100. 10,000 people lost their lives in Nepal following the devastating quake. Jon was fortunate to make it out of the blast alive and able to help with recovery efforts.

In 2011, Dr. Kedrowski became the first person to camp and spend the night on the top Colorado's 55 Official 14ers: peaks over 14,000'. He achieved the feat from June 23 to September 28 2011, a stretch of only 95 days from start to finish.

In 2012, Dr. Jon Successfully climbed Mount Everest, May 26th, 2012. His story has been chronicled extensively as he was a witness and survived the worst tragedy on Everest since the 1996 disaster.
