Speaking of getting new members, here is the team list from Doug: Team List.jpg

Recent B-days go to: Norm Schillo, Dan Miller, Ed Bezjak & Rev. Robinson.

Orian asked if there would be much interest in a group going to the Wildlife Preserve (I think he ment The Wild Animal Sanctuary) in Keenesburg. It looked like there might be enough interest so more to follow.

Tim read a “Thank You” note the club received from Western Welcome Week and mentioned that next year will be their 88th year.

Dave Miley mentioned the Annual Awards Lunch on Oct 22 but I think he might have the date wrong. More to follow.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    The Cat Dr., Dr. Bruce Elsey, was greeted with a room full of “MEOWS”. He open with this: He was born on Sept 11, 1951 in Garden City, KS (five generations). Went to H.S. there and it is still standing. The river that runs through it is the Arkansas (pronounced Ar Kansas. With a draft number of 23, Bruce just missed being called into the service in the early 70’s because Viet Nam was winding down and Saigon fell.

Bruce married Kathleen in 1976 and graduated from Vet school in 1977. They have twin sons born in 1982 and graduated from KS St. They are both married now and so far there are 4 grandkids. Bruce now owns the cat clinic but is semi-retired and sells cat litter.
He mentioned Garden City had the largest outdoor concrete swimming pool that was free until they added things like a slide and now charge to use the facility.

The cat liter business is doing good with a new facility in the works to handle railroad loading/unloading (from the BNSF of course).

Significant dates in the life of DR BUCE ELSEY, DVM are as follows:
1951 age 0 born in Garden City Ks
1961 age 10 sorted pop bottles for his father's store
1965-67 age 14 repaired roofs and performed other construction jobs due to a tornado
1969 age 18 entered the livestock industry by raising hogs
1976 age 25 married Kathleen
1977 age 26 graduated veterinary school (Kansas State Univ)

1979 age 28 brought into the club by Steve Bolyard
1982 age 31 twin boys were born
1989 age 38 started selling his special brand of cat litter (my cat loves to poop in it)
2008 age 57 gave a couple famous sayings from President Eisenhower (he was from Kansas). Kathleen’s health has been improving. Listen to Bruce Elsey.mp3

Program:  Jack Marshall introduced Bill and Karen Stiffler from Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption.

Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption (FOHRAA), is a 501 C 3 non-profit charitable organization located in Centennial, Colorado since 2001. FOHRAA is dedicated to rescuing good horses and adopting them to good homes, therapeutic riding and community service. With over 150 horses currently being cared for, FOHRAA is not a “typical” rescue”. We offer a full service riding facility, with indoor and outdoor arenas, therapeutic riding, riding lessons in all disciplines and at all levels, and access to Cherry Creek State Park for the more advanced riders. In addition to horse adoption, we also offer the option to lease a horse on a monthly basis and private boarding.

FOHRAA has a strong therapeutic riding program. Our gentle horses and experienced instructors provide equine-based activities for a variety of disabilities for children and adults.

Many of our horses came from loving homes that were no longer able to care for them. They’re GREAT horses! FOHRAA places many foals and horses into adoptive, loving homes. Over the past decade, a number of very good horses have met their fate by way of the slaughterhouse. FOHRAA gives an option to those individuals who might otherwise send their horses to killer markets. It also helps rescued racehorses, neglected horses and other horses at risk. In the last year, FOHRAA has placed over 1,000 horses into adoptive homes. Adoption fees generally range from $500 to $2,500. On occasion we come across horses that have more value and will be adopted at their value. Proceeds from the adoptions help fund the tremendous costs FOHRAA incurs to feed, vaccinate, house, vet and find homes for such a large number of horses.      Listen to Bill Stiffler.mp3
