SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Ken Kelley, one of our newest members, finally had his chance to tell us his life story, but not before poking fun at the age of some of the members. (Ken didn’t check his voice mail yesterday so he didn’t bring us any goodies).

KenKelley.JPG

Ken was born in Denver around January 25, 1978, his Mother and G-Mother were also born in Denver. He attended Asbury and Lincoln Elementary, Baker Middle and South High School. Although he didn’t graduate from South, he did received his GED. Seems he got a 1973 Plymouth and decided to drive around instead of going to school. He did attend Metro and Red Rocks but didn’t graduate there either. He met his wife, Katherine, who has attended The School of Mines and D.U. They have lived in Centennial for about 11 yrs, married 7 yrs, have a 2-1/2 old daughter and a dog. Ken informed us that his mothers cousin is married to Doug Harder’s brother. Not sure what that makes Ken to Doug.

Ken has been in telemarketing, mattress sales and now has his own Allstate Insurance Agency located at the Chase building on Cherokee and Hampton, Englewood, CO 80133 and phone is 303-781-1110 He claims to be an artist, poet and music instrument player. He has no military and John Pifer brought him into the club. Ken is big on getting new blood into the club so let’s see what we can do. AND the question of the day: What river was he born near? The South Platte of course.   Listen to KenKelley.mp3

September 6, 2011

Dear members of Arapahoe Sertoma;

When Chuck Fritsinger, first came into Howie’s office asking if he would like to join a service club, we didn’t know exactly what that meant. But, there were so many young people going into business for themselves and we thought, wouldn’t it be great to meet people of our own age in the community.

How smart it was for us to do that, as Sertoma has meant so very much to both of us. We made some of our best friends through Sertoma. We enjoyed all of the social events and community support projects including:

Bingo games, Golf Tournaments, pancake breakfasts, German dinners and many other events. The money raised, went to many worthy causes such as, Polio, the physically challenged and the hearing impaired and many other charities, where the need was great. We also enjoyed working with The Little Britches Rodeo and Western Welcome Week.

We feel fortunate that Howie was the last surviving charter member of Sertoma. And even on his last day, when he attended Sertoma that Thursday, how he received such strong support and recognition. All of his friends were and still are, supportive to the family. We still think of the Sertomans that have passed before, and how we valued their friendships and that of their wives and families.

All these men supported each other in many ways over the years and now we truly know what “service” to mankind means, both locally and nationally.

I hope all the contributions will continue to be of service to the club and please stay in touch when you can. Thanks again for all of the generosity, kindness, friendship and recent support in Howie’s memory.

Sincerely,

Helen Kelsall
