Guests:    Alice Perkins, Jim’s wife: Rev. Robinson introduced Vicky Oren, his LSC: Clarke Bennett was introduced as having his application submitted for membership (second publication) and a check. Randy Braun came to check out our program speaker. He will be the program in a couple weeks. Gregory Anderson from Greater Park Hill came to sell some tickets for their joint Taste of Sertoma fund raiser with DTC Sertoma. Sept 17th on Sat, 6:00 -9:30 PM, at Wings Over the Rockies. If you didn’t get a ticket and want to attend, contact either of the 2 clubs.

FINES:  Bill for loaning a quarter to Orian: Norm for advertising: Randy for ?

Birthdays:   Tim Pollak and Norm Schillo.

Announcements:   Fill in President, Scott Manley, did a terrific job standing in for Bob. He also had a couple announcements: We received a Thank You from Craig Hospital for the $8,300 donation raised from the A-1 Scuba event a while back. Also, there is a sign-up sheet going around for the upcoming Service Luncheon on Oct. 27th (there will not be a regular lunch at the Elks club that day). It is at the Meridian, same place it has been in the past and it runs from 11:30a.m. to 1p.m. Sign up if you want to go because the club has to pay for your lunch.

Last week’s Bronco pool winners: Miley, Gomez, Laudermilk & Jacobus. No image of this week’s game because I forgot to get it.

At the Board Meeting today, we asked for ideas for this year’s Christmas Party. Do we want an adult only party, a party with adults & kids? How about holding it at the Elks club? Do we want a $10 gift exchange???? What about a band or DJ, what type of music (one idea was 40’s music). We need ideas of what YOU want so write down some ideas and give them to the President.

We want to know how many in the club would be interested in taking the Royal Gorge Train or the George Town Loop for a ride as a club function. Think about it as more discussion to follow.

Remember, if you bring in a new member and he stays 6 months, you get Free Dues - per new member for a quarter. A couple members just qualified for this perk.

news_l6.gif SERTOMAN OF THE DAY:

Sertoman of the Day:    Tom (the tooth) Fry didn’t use a stool this time and began the epic saga of his life starting with his dad and granddad. Between his scratching of the mic and comments from the peanut gallery, I think we got most of his adventure through life.

Tommy (Tooth) Fry was born in 1933, 81 years ago. A product of the sturdy Custer County High School graduating in 1951, Tommy moved on to Carleton College graduating in 1954, then to Columbia Dental School earning his Dental tools in 1958, followed by two years in the Army (1958-1960) defending the Great Northwest where not a single dental stool was destroyed. Kay agreed to marry Tom in ‘58, four days after Tom graduated from Columbia Dental School. Over the years, they have gained 3 kids and 2 grandkids.

Tommy came to Denver in Sep. of 1960, just after his 2 years in the Army and practiced dentistry on Federal ‘til the flood of ‘65’, then at the corner of Broadway and Arapahoe Rd beginning in 1970. Though he practiced, he apparently didn’t get the hang of it and retired in ‘96. Tom was brought into the club by Bob Gallagher in 1965/66 and the club has benefited immensely. Listen to Tom Fry.mp3

Program:  Mike Magee introduced Anthony Prichard who is a Certified Google Partner and a YouTube Specialist and his talk today is “Growing your Membership

With the rapid advancements in video technology and equipment, the ability to produce high quality content through video is easier than ever. The statistics are staggering. Only 9% of US businesses today use YouTube as an online tool.

Jeffrey Gitomer said, “The future of business, marketing, brand loyalty and sales are in your smartphone. It’s only how you execute that tool that will determine your success in the future.”

Everyone in your company can use video to communicate and to mature your company. If you feel like the online world of social media has left you in the dust, jump to the front of the line today with video & internet. The two most powerful business tools in the world.

Anthony gave a demonstration of how easy it is to make a video and post it on YouTube and started to have the entire club try it but I guess we ran out of time.

(It is something we need to do so I would propose that someone with a good speaking voice step up to be recorded. We need to work up the details of what to say, that will promote the club as best we can.)       Listen to Anthony Prichard.mp3
