Announcements Word is that Gus may be going home this weekend but don’t bother them yet until he says he is ready for visitors.

Our new member, Jim Britton is having a bout of poor health. Don’t know what is wrong yet.

Tim had a thank you note from his wife, Ruth, for the donations last week to Second Wind.

Dick Enslow gave the results for the Annual Sertoma Golf Tournament held at The Meadows Golf Course. In the Gross flight, Scott Manley first place, Mike Magee second. In the Net flight, Jim Rees first place, Dick Mason second. The Sandbagger flight was won by Rev. Jim Robinson (with a little help from above) and second went to Don Smith. At this week’s board meeting, it was brought up that Littleton Sertoma is having another Charity Sporting Clays Event Friday, Oct 1st. at Kiowa Creek. If you’re interested, I think we will be taking names next week.

Ed Bezjak is going gambling and says he will take your money with him but no guarantee he will come back with any of it. Sounds like a solid bet to me.

Fall Dist. Conf. maybe Oct 11. More to follow.

Englewood Chamber of Commerce luncheon is on Oct 19th. Cost $20 but club picks up half. Reservation deadline is Oct 5th. Howie Kelsall will have an honorable mention there. Meridian Retirement Center, 3455 S. Corona St. 11:30am. There is NO lunch on the 14th.

Will Martinez has King Soopers coupons. The club receives 5% but only 4 people regularly use the service. The card is like a debit card so it’s easy to use.

Dick Laskey was born 8-15-48 in Detroit Michigan. His grandfather was a dentist who worked on notables such as Race Beamer of early radio fame and baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb.

Dick passed around for viewing some very old stock certificates that aren’t worth anything but the stamps on them could be worth a lot. His high school is closed and his rivers were the Detroit & Rusch rivers. Dick joined Sertoma in 1980 and has served in many of the club offices including President in 1986, Treasurer, etc.

Dick has been married to Linda since 1970 and they have a daughter and a son plus two grandkids. They moved to Colorado in 1973. He earned an accounting degree at Kalamazoo U. Dick had no military.

Program:  Peter Pauwels introduced Dr. Michael Curd, a retired Army Chaplin and good friend of our Pastor Robinson. Michael came today to discuss PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), or in the military it’s called Combat Operation Stress.

Dr. Michael Curd.JPG

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, (once called shell shock or battle fatigue syndrome) is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat. More about PTSD »
Signs & Symptoms
People with PTSD have persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their ordeal and feel emotionally numb, especially with people they were once close to. They may experience sleep problems, feel detached or numb, or be easily startled. More about Signs & Symptoms »
Effective treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with PTSD and other anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives. More about Treatment »
Getting Help: Locate Services
Locate mental health services in your area, affordable healthcare, NIMH clinical trials, and listings of professionals and organizations. More about Locating Services »
Doctors use antidepressant medications to treat PTSD and to control the feelings of anxiety and its associated symptoms, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Paxil, Celexa, Luvox, Prozac, and Zoloft; and tricyclic antidepressants such as Elavil and Doxepin. Tranquilizers such as Ativan and Klonopin; mood stabilizers such as Depakote and Lamictal; and neuroleptics such as Seroquel and Abilify are sometimes used.
